A Dallas Independent School District police officer has been placed on administrative leave after being seen on video picking up a sixth-grade student and slamming her to the ground, injuring the girl, authorities say.

“Her clavicle is fractured,” Alma Valadez, the mother of 12-year-old Mariana Benton, told CBS DFW.
In video shared across social media, Mariana and another female student can be seen fighting on school grounds at the Piedmont Global Academy School as a group of students surround the girls. Video then shows a uniformed Dallas ISD officer separating the girls before picking up Mariana and slamming her to the ground as other children cry out in shock.
“It makes me mad, angry. She’s 12 years old. She weighs 100 pounds. He should be fired,” Valadez said of the officer.
Instead, the school opted to put the officer on administrative leave and declined to release his identity. The school district did say that the officer’s actions did not appear to “represent the type of response we want our officers to display.”
The school district also investigated Mariana’s conduct before the video, according to the news station, and suspended her.
