An 11-year-old South Side Chicago boy was killed Saturday when a carjacker fleeing from police slammed into his familyβs vehicle, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Donovan Anthony Turnage was headed to the barbershop with his father and older brother to get a Christmas haircut when the crash occurred about 12:30 p.m., the report shows. The incident began when police officers on patrol observed an armed carjacking and began pursuing the driver of the stolen vehicle, the report shows. The chase came to a halt when the stolen vehicle crashed into the Turnagesβ Suburban near a major intersection. The suspect reportedly escaped.

Turnage was pronounced dead at the University of Chicagoβs Comer Childrenβs Hospital at 1:35 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examinerβs office.
