“I’m here because the next president of the United States invited me,” Daniels said. “I was a little scared at first,” he added. “I wondered if Hillary [Clinton] really knew who I was. Not just the work I do in entertainment, but who I really am.”

Daniels spoke about all of his relatives who were in jail, as well as his father, a former Philadelphia police officer who was killed.

“It hit me like a brick: Hillary knows me; she knows me. And that’s what gave me the courage to come and speak in front of you all tonight,” Daniels said as he spoke about gun violence.

In addition to Daniels, the cast of his show Empire also stands with Clinton. Gabourey Sidibe, Tasha Smith, Jussie Smollett, Trai Byers, Bryshere Gray, Grace Byers and Taraji P. Henson came together for a new Clinton ad titled, “What Will You Say?”

“So many women and men died for us to have the right to vote,” Daniels said. “Every time we sit out, we dishonor their sacrifices.”
