With Beyoncรฉ, Doechii, Kendrick Lamar, Lucky Daye, and many more up for historic wins, The Root relied on AI to get insight on who could possibly win. Itโ€™s important to note AI cannot predict the future, but here are some Black nominees that have a โ€œstrong chanceโ€ at the Grammy wins they clearly deserve.

Doechii

With a breakout year like Doechiiโ€™s, some might say itโ€™s unfair if she doesnโ€™t walk away with at least one win of her three nominations. Sheโ€™s nominated for Best New Artist with Sabrina Carpenter, Shaboozey, and Chappell Roan. But despite the competitiveness of this category, AI chatbot Groq said โ€œDoechiiโ€™s strong performance and critical acclaim give her a strong chance of winning.โ€

Her mixtape, โ€œAlligator Bites Never Heal,โ€ has received high praises from within the industry like SZA, Keke Palmer, and even Hayley Williams of Paramore. Sheโ€™s proven herself to be a tough act to follow, and her versatility might give her the winning advantage.

Shaboozey

...And speaking of breakout success, Groq predicts Shaboozey could win his first Grammy this year. The Nigerian-American artist is putting on for Black country music fans, and while Beyoncรฉ helped make Shaboozeyโ€™s name a household staple, heโ€™s found his own lane and is absolutely killing it!

โ€œA Bar Song (Tipsy)โ€ is one of the most recognizable songs of 2024, and after performing at the Country Music Awards and with Beyoncรฉ on Christmas Day, itโ€™s clear the industry is rooting for Shaboozey, which could pay off in the form of a Grammy win, according to Groq.

Beyoncรฉ

Beyoncรฉโ€™s Cowboy Carter took over 2024 with hits like โ€œTEXAS HOLD โ€˜EMโ€ and โ€œBODYGUARD.โ€ This year, Queen Bey is nominated for 11 Grammys, a trend which comes as no shocker given she the most nominated person in Grammy history, according to AP News.

According to Groq, Bey could indeed walk away with wins for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, and Best R&B Performance. If she wins Album of the Year, sheโ€™ll be the first Black woman to do so this century. Previously, Lauryn Hill won in 1999 for โ€œThe Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.โ€

Kendrick Lamar

The only person that mightโ€™ve had a better year than the queen herself is Kendrick Lamar. The Compton rapper is up for seven Grammys this timeโ€” most of them connected to his smash hit โ€œNot Like Us.โ€

Groq predicts Lamar to win at least one award. Because letโ€™s be serious, last year you couldnโ€™t go anywhere without hearing โ€œNot Like Us.โ€ The chatbot continued saying Lamar has a track record of winning Grammys heโ€™s nominated for. He already has 16 Grammys under his belt, and โ€œNot Like Usโ€ is clearly a frontrunner for another win.

Interestingly enough, Groq gave a disclaimer about its predictions. โ€œItโ€™s worth noting that the Grammys have a history of snubbing black artists, so itโ€™s possible that some of these artists may not win despite their nominations,โ€ the chatbot replied.

And it wouldnโ€™t be the first time weโ€™ve witnessed this either. In 2017, Beyoncรฉโ€™s โ€œLemonadeโ€ loss to Adeleโ€™s โ€œ25.โ€ In 2005, Maroon 5 won Best New Artist over Kanye West, and just last year, SZA lost Album of the Year to Taylor Swift. But regardless of the outcome this time, the cultural affect each of these Black artists canโ€™t be denied and will be remembered forever.
