Marvin Banks, 29, and Joanie Calloway, 22, have each been charged with two counts of capital murder, and Banksโ€™ brother, Curtis Banks, 26, has been charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of capital murder, a spokesman for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety told the Associated Press.

The three Hattiesburg residents were arrested at different locations overnight without resistance following Saturday nightโ€™s fatal shooting of officers Benjamin J. Deen, 34, and Liquori Tate, 24, the report says.

Local media describe Deen as a past department "Officer of the Year" and Tate as a newcomer to the force.

The incident began about 8:30 p.m. CDT after one of the officers stopped a 2000 Gold Cadillac Escalade in an industrial part of the city, according to Fox News. A second officer arrived moments later to assist him, and that is when shots rang out, the report says.

Details of why the vehicle was stopped and why shooting broke out remain unclear, and officials did not provide specifics about the officersโ€™ or suspectsโ€™ actions when the shots were fired.
