Celebrities, they’re just like us. And that sentiment seems especially true for “The View” cohost Whoopi Goldberg who recently opened up about her views on dating and marriage — and it’s arguably the funniest and most relatable thing she’s said all year. I’ll explain.

Goldberg’s views (ha!) were shared on the latest episode of “The Don Lemon Show” where she was there in promotion of her new memoir “Bits and Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, and Me.” However, when the subject switched to dating and marriage, Goldberg revealed a rather unorthodox preference (at least by more conservative folks who believe in the sex should only be reserved for married folks): she prefers one-night-stands, or as she calls them “hit-and-runs.”
Specifically, Goldberg “doesn’t mind” for her lover to come over — but they have to be gone by the time she opens her eyes in the morning. When asked by Lemon is she still partakes in that the act, Goldberg said:
“You have to give yourself permission because you know you have this whole line of words that are stacked up in your head about what you are if you say a ‘hit-and-run’ is where you want to be, and you don’t want to be married. You know, ‘Oh, am I a whore? Am I this? Am I a terrible person because I don’t want to?’
And I never really thought about it. I just thought, ‘Well I must be doing it wrong, ’cause other people seem to be able to have figured it out.’ What I didn’t realize with that was that I had figured it out. I just was surprised by the fact that I didn’t really want it, but I like to ‘hit-and-run.’ And my mother said well maybe you should just throw a throw a party from now on, not get married anymore.
She added, of marriage: “I don’t really want that. I want to see you when I see you and then you go.”
Somebody put that last sentence on a shirt ASAP! As a matter of fact, go ahead and put her 2016 quote: “I don’t want somebody in my house” on the front and add this new one on the back. It’ll be an instant bestseller and I’ll be the first buyer!
Whether you agree with the stance or not, you’ve got to applaud Goldberg’s consistency. From 2016 to 2024 — that’s eight years of unwavering selfishness and I can do nothing but applaud her. It’s honestly pretty real if you ask me. She’s a woman who knows what she wants and she’s not compromising, and who can be mad at that?
