The BBC reports that the photo, taken by recent University of Virginia graduate DeVante Cunningham, immediately went viral, with many expressing a higher-than-usual level of WTF-ness.

โ€œMe and my friend were in total disbelief,โ€ said Cunningham. โ€œWe really couldnโ€™t believe we had just seen a Klansman with dreads. Weโ€™re looking at the KKK here, and dreadlocks are basically a symbol of African culture. It was really weird to see.โ€

Cunningham says he tried to engage the man (and yes, Cunningham is African American; his name is DeVante, the very same as the cute one from Jodeci and the new baby on Black-ish, albeit spelled โ€œDevonteโ€), but the racist refused to speak to him.

Apparently, there were a few on social media who tried to defend Ratty Dreadโ€™s actions by saying that the style was not โ€œownedโ€ by any particular group. But come on, now. Do we have to break out the history books?

Meanwhile, Cunningham says he will soon be pursuing a Ph.D. White dreadlock boy will probably crawl back into the cabin he lives in with his sister-wife while dude cheers for Steph Curry, listens to 4:44 and has his scalp greased with shea butter ... seeing no irony here at all.
