During his failed attempt to court Black voters at a church event in Detroit last week, former President Donald Trump was backed by several Black Republicans as well as rapper Sada Baby (born Casada Sorrell). Outside of the 180 Church in Detroit, Sorrell eagerly encouraged people to vote for Trump.

Trump Appears On โThe Fresh Prince of Bel-Airโ (1994)

In 1994, Donald Trump appeared alongside second wife Marla Maples on โThe Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.โ The series was pivotal in launching the career of Will Smith, who became the first rapper to win a Grammy in 1989 as one-half of DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince. In the episode, Trump portrayed a tycoon who was considering buying the Banksโ mansion. The cameo came just five years after Trump called for the execution of the exonerated Central Park 5.
Trump Sparks Friendship With Diddy (1997)

Following the shocking death of The Notorious B.I.G. in 1997, Sean โDiddyโ Combs released his debut studio album โNo Way Outโ under the moniker โPuff Daddyโ just several months later. The project launched him into the hip-hop stratosphere and he sparked a friendship with Trump that same year. They were spotted at the U.S. Open together and Trump attended the opening of Diddyโs restaurant Justinโs with him shortly after.
Method Man Releases โDonald Trump (Skit)โ (1998)
Method Man was flying high on his 1998 sophomore solo album, โTical 2000: Judgement Dayโ when he solidified an appearance from Donald Trump. On โDonald Trump (Skit),โ Trump expresses excitement over Method Manโs next project. โHey Method Man! This is Donald Trump and Iโm in Palm Beach and weโre all waiting for your album. Letโs get going man! Everybodyโs waiting for this album,โ Trump says on the skit. In 2017, Method Man told Seth Meyers that Trump appeared on โTicalโ due to Trumpโs friendship with Russell Simmons.
Smif N Wessun/Raekwon Release โBlack Trumpโ (2003)
In 2003, Smif N Wessun and Raekwon released the song โBlack Trumpโ on which the legendary the Wu-Tang Clan emcee brags about his wealth: โYou gotta make power moves, black gunz and cash rule.โ He reaffirms Trumpโs status symbol by asking at the end of the track: โGuess whoโs the Black Trump?โ
Trumpโs Rap Value Booms With โThe Apprenticeโ (2004)
After Trumpโs NBC reality show, โThe Apprentice,โ debuted in 2004, his rap currency soared through the roof. His name appeared in songs by artists like Lil Wayne, Lilโ Kim, Rick Ross and others. On Jeezyโs 2005 album โThug Motivation 101,โ the emcee rapped on the title track โIโm Donald Trump in a white tee.โ Yung Joc repeated this sentiment on his 2006 hit, โItโs Goinโ Downโ by stating: โBoys from the hood call me Black Donald Trump.โ
Trump Appears On G-Unit Radio (2005)
Back in 2005, 50 Cent called in Donald Trump to G-Unit Radio to discuss money, hip-hop and โThe Apprentice.โ Trump attempted to hold his own alongside not just 50, but DJ Whoo Kid and Tony Yayo as well who he called โa great group of people.โ When asked about his next venture, Trump insisted that real estate would always be a priority for him. Trump also said his kids thought 50 Cent was โthe absolute best.โ
Mac Miller Goes Platinum With โDonald Trumpโ (2011)
In 2011, the late Mac Miller released โDonald Trump,โ the only single from his mixtape โBest Day Ever.โ The song references Trumpโs success and wealth and how Miller hopes to emulate it with lines like โTake over the world when Iโm on my Donald Trump sh*t / Look at all this money, ainโt that some sh*t?โ โDonald Trumpโ was Millerโs first song to enter the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum in 2013. Miller would go on to be a vocal critic of Trumpโs presidency.
โFDTโ by YG (2016)
In March 2016, Trump was campaigning for president when YG released the rigorous anthem โFDTโ or โF**k Donald Trump.โ โDonโt let Donald Trump win, that n***a cancer/Heโs too rich, he ainโt got the answers/He canโt make decisions for this country, he gonโ crash us!โ YG rapped. The song also features the late Nipsey Hussle, who told Trump: โIโm from a place where you prolly canโt go/Speaking for some people that you prolly ainโt know.โ Trump was elected months later.
Jay and Bey Endorse Hillary Clinton (2016)

In 2016 โ just eight days before the presidential election โ hip-hopโs super couple endorsed Hillary Clinton during a Cleveland rally. Though fame sometimes causes celebs to stay quiet about politics, Jay Z and Beyonce had no problem making their allegiance known. โLess than 100 years ago, women did not have the right to vote. Look how far weโve come from having no voice to being on the brink of making history, again, by electing the first woman president,โ Bey said in a moving speech.
Trump Quotes DJ Khaled (2017)
In 2017 during a rally in Iowa, Trump attempted to use hip-hopโs influence to balk at his critics. โWe are making such incredible progress. We are making progress like nobody can believe,โ Trump said during his speech. โThese people [the media] are being driven crazy. They have a phony witch hunt going against me and you know what: all we do is win, win, win.โ He seemingly lifted the lyrics from DJ Khaledโs 2010 hit โAll I Do Is Winโ to sound victorious.
Kendrick Speaks Out On โThe Heart Part 4" (2017)
On Kendrick Lamarโs first single of 2017, โThe Heart Part 4,โ the Pulitzer Prize-winning emcee used his talent to condemn Trump and his catastrophic presidency. โDonald Trump is a chump/Know how we feel, punk โ tell him that God cominโ/And Russia need a replay button, yโall up to somethin,โโ Lamar acutely rapped. โElectorial votes look like memorial votes/But Americaโs truth ainโt ignorinโ the votes/Itโs blasphemy, how many gonโ blast for me?/I prophesized on my last song, you laughed at me.โ
Kanye West Gets Backlash For Trump Endorsement (2018)

In 2018, Kanye West stated that a โmobโ couldnโt stop his support of then-President Donald Trump. That same year during an appearance on โSaturday Night Live,โ West wore a โMake America Great Againโ and expressed love for Trump on the show. The rapper initially expressed support during a November 2016 concert in California, where West said that if he had voted for a presidential candidate, he would have voted for Trump. West would receive backlash for his remarks before running for President years later.
Public Enemy Release Anti-Trump Anthem (2020)
In 2020, Public Enemy โ known for the powerful 1989 anthem โFight The Powerโ โ released the DJ Premier-produced song โSTATE OF THE UNION (STFU).โ Frontman Chuck D said that the song was influenced by how Trump handled Black Lives Matters protesters and the COVID-19 pandemic. โI didnโt write a lot of anti-Trump songs, but this is an anti-45 one for sure. Because it doesnโt talk about him not being the right person for the job and we voted him out so much, itโs talking about you gotta leave now. Because you know, the mountains burn and you got to put out the fire,โ Chuck D explained.
Plies Releases โConvicted Felonโ (2024)
Florida rapper and consistent Trump critic Plies released his song โConvicted Felonโ in June 2024, just one month after Trump was convicted in a New York courtroom on 34 counts of falsifying business documents. โWhatโs crazy to me is from the beginning of time, America has always told how to treat a convicted felon,โ Plies stated on the song. โNow that heโs a convicted felon you want the rules to change,โ he continued referencing Trumpโs ability to still run for president despite his legal record.
