Another cop has evaded repercussions after being involved in the fatal shooting of a black person.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability, a Chicago oversight board, has found that the December 2015 police-involved shooting deaths of a 19-year-old college student and a 55-year-old grandmother were unjustified.
In Chicago, it’s not enough to kill a black teen. After a Chicago police officer took the life of Quintonio LeGrier, 19, nearly two years ago, the city’s attorneys are now looking to sue his family. Their claim? That LeGrier was responsible for the death of an innocent bystander whom the cop also killed.
A Chicago police officer who shot and killed a college student and his downstairs neighbor by mistake will face no charges in the two deaths. The Cook County District Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute the officer on Friday, saying that there was insufficient evidence that he was not acting in self-defense.
