Someone obviously thought he or she was being smart by using new cars to ship marijuana from Mexico to Ohio, but the plot was foiled and Drug Enforcement Administration agents confiscated $1 million in weed.

According to CNN, 15 Ford Fusions that arrived at a Lordstown, Ohio, plant had weed stored in the spare tire wells in the trunk. Now the DEA is trying to figure out exactly how cars manufactured at the Ford plant in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, were shipped by rail into a CSX yard in Lordstown without someone noticing the weed.
DEA Agent Silverio Balzano said that shipping marijuana in cars from Mexico isn’t uncommon, but he assumes that something went wrong along the way, since the weed wasn’t retrieved. The authorities didn’t get wind of the weed until a Youngstown dealership discovered it between July 7 and July 11.
Ford Motor Co. issued a statement and said that it was cooperating with the DEA and the shipping company, CSX, to figure out how the incident occurred.
“We’re aware of the situation and are taking it very seriously,” the statement read. “We are working with the FBI and Customs on an extensive investigation. We have confirmed that this is not happening at our plant or at our internal shipping yards.”
