In a Facebook Live video, Jamel Chandler, 21, of Brooklyn, N.Y., said that he hadnโt been home for a month and that cops were knocking at his door to arrest him. In an attempt to evade arrest, Chandler tied together some bedsheets and tried to escape from a window of the 11th-floor apartment where he was staying. But he plummeted to his death.

According to the New York City Police Department, Chandler was a suspect in the robbery of a livery driver.
โIโm about to go to jail ... and I ainโt been home a whole month,โ he said. โIโm about to jump out the window. Iโm on the 11th floor. Iโm about to jump, bro, jump. If you want to jump, let me know. They right there, bro.โ
According to the New York Daily News, Chandler had recently been released from prison after serving a four-year sentence. His mother, Joyce Ford, referred to her son as a โhappy-go-lucky person.โ
Police eventually arrested Chandlerโs alleged accomplice in the robbery, who lived in the same building. Ford is requesting a full investigation into her sonโs death to make sure that foul play by the officers wasnโt involved.
