What Happened, Miss Simone? will follow Simone’s life and work across three decades. Those decades documented Simone’s mastery of genres including jazz, blues and R&B.

According to EW, the film will include “never-before-heard audio tapes,” interviews and concert footage. Netflix is calling the documentary “the most authentic, personal and unflinching telling of the extraordinary life of one of the 20th century’s greatest recording artists.”

Although Netflix did not release a date for the airing of the documentary, one has to wonder if it will be aired to coincide or even compete with the Simone biopic starring Zoe Saldana, which has been met with little to no fanfare, but tons of critiquing.
