C’mon, it’s the end of the year, and people tend to get reflective around this time. Don’t judge. Still, the first family, the first black first family, for the past eight years have lived in a house built by slaves and have represented this country exceptionally well.

The Obamas have signified hope and (for some) an elevated sense of self, and epitomized the infinite possibilities that we hope to manifest within us all. Alas, it’s the first family’s last Christmas in the White House, and we’re holding back tears. Big time.

But we can always reminisce.

This holiday season, The Root takes a look at the past seven Christmases in the Obama White House. These photos include family pictures, tree lightings, and Bo and Sunny. After all, we can’t forget the official White House dogs.

Keep your tissues near, because, well, this is the nation’s last Obama Christmas.
