The teenager from Chicago has wanted to donate his kidney to her since he was a little boy, CBS Chicago reports.

“When I first found out, it was kind of sad, because I was like, ‘Now she’s helpless,’ and I want to save her,” Hamilton told the news site.

His mother, Rhonda McClarn has been on dialysis for years. However, upon approaching 18, Hamilton found out his kidney was not going to work for her.

That’s when the teen decided to take part in a paired kidney exchange where he would give a kidney to a stranger so that his mother could get a kidney from another stranger.

Recently, a match has been found and both mother and son are due for surgery at the beginning of next week.

“I just cried and prayed, cried and prayed, because I didn’t think I would ever hear that,” McClarn said.

As for how McClarn feels about her son’s dedication? Well, she thinks he’s very special.

“I love him so much,” she told CBS Chicago.

Hamilton, for his part, is not put off at the thought of surgery, and is in fact rather “excited” about helping someone else, so his mom can have a better life.

“I’m excited,” he said. “I’m ready to go.”
