Tommy Schaefer, 21, along with his girlfriend Heather Mack, 19, were arrested in the Indonesian province after Sheila von Wiese-Mack’s body was found stuffed in a suitcase in a taxi outside the resort where the three were staying.

“Schaefer confessed to killing von Wiese-Mack during police interrogation,” police Chief Col. Djoko Heru Utomo told AP. “He was hurt and offended by the victim’s words in an argument with him. That is the motive for the murder.”

Mack also admitted to her part in the crime, saying that she helped her boyfriend stuff her mother’s body into the suitcase. Mack is three months pregnant, according to the report.

According to AP, the two have not been formally charged, but the police chief said that the investigation should be completed by mid-October, allowing the case to be presented to prosecutors before the detention period ends.
