Young GOP Leaders ‘Joke’ About Slavery and Hitler, Drop ‘N-Word’ in Group Texts—Guess What Happened Next

These young GOP leaders probably thought no one would see their comments about rape, slavery and genocide.

How does a young, white Republican speak when they think no one is listening? What would they confess when they assumed no one outside of their circle would read it?

Well, seven months of vile racist and sexist messages among young Republican leaders from four states just got leaked, exposing what they really think about Black folks, Hitler, and genocide in a not-so-shocking leak of the Telegram social messaging service chats that has rocked the political party to its core.

The Telegram chats, obtained by POLITICO, unveiled alleged racist chats of the Young Republican National Federation (YRNF) leaders and members in New York, Kansas, Arizona and Vermont. And get ready, what a dozen millennial and Gen Z Republicans is accused of writing in a chat titled “RESTOREYR WAR ROOM” will likely piss you clean off.

William Hendrix, the Kansas Young Republicans’ vice chair, reportedly got creative with his racism, using variations of the N-word like “n*gga” and “n*gguh” over a dozen times, the outlet reported. Other slurs like “retarded” and “f*ggot” and the N-word were used more than 250 times. He subsequently lost his job with the Kansas Attorney General’s office.

The New York State Young Republicans’ chair Peter Giunta allegedly wrote in June how “everyone that votes no is going to the gas chamber” and how he will “create some of the greatest physiological torture methods known to man” because, “We only want true believers.” After a flight, he also wrote, per the outlet, that “If your pilot is a she and she looks ten shades darker than someone from Sicily, just end it there.”

Guinta also called Black folks “the watermelon people” and allegedly wrote how he’d rather “go to the zoo if I wanted to watch monkey play ball” instead of watching a NBA game. He was fired from his job as chief of staff for a New York Assembly member. FAFO.

The same organization’s vice chair, Bobby Walker, is accused of calling rape “epic,” and Annie Kaykaty, New York’s national committee member, allegedly wrote how she’s “ready to watch people burn now.” Walker’s job offer to join a congressional campaign was rescinded, The Guardian reported.

To add insult to injury, many of the chat members whose alleged racist messages were leaked in the near 3,000 pages of chats had already secured a government job or a position in their party. One, the outlet says, is even a state senator. At least one person in the chat, Michael Bartels, works in the Trump administration as a senior adviser in the office of general counsel, the outlet said.

Since the leak, some declined to comment, while others offered back-handed apologies when POLITICO reached out. Walker, who now leads the New York State Young Republicans, says he believes portions of the texts “may have been altered, taken out of context, or otherwise manipulated,” but added, “There is no excuse for the language and tone in messages attributed to me.”

The YRNF publicly condemned the chat and demanded that all involved resign immediately from their positions in their state and local Young Republican organizations.

The Kansas chapter even deactivated within hours of the leak.

Walker added in one text: “If we ever had a leak of this chat we would be cooked fr fr.”
