The Root’s Young, Fabulous and Female event on Aug. 22 at New York City’s Open House Gallery wasn’t just about networking and listening to successful black women tell their stories — although there was a lot of that. Guests were also provided the the opportunity to check out the art of amazing black female artists, including Lorna Simpson, an accomplished conceptual photographer whose work has been featured in the Museum of Modern Art; Alison Saar, who specializes in sculpture and installments; and Fatimah Tuggar, who is a digital visual artist.
