Content creator Isa Bako (@isa.bako4) often posts political commentary and news about the US and Africa, which isn’t controversial. However, after Bako made a couple of posts, which were taken down from TikTok, saying that anyone who directly benefits from the destruction of Africa should be harmed, the Secret Service decided to have a word with him.
“Secret Service just came to my house over a TikTok post, dead***,” Bako started his video. “…This is crazy… they showed up to me to talk to my house about posts that I’ve been making about the invasion of Africa, where I said, ‘Anyone who benefits from the death and destruction in Africa, their families need to be hurt. So, Secret Service just showed up to my house.”
As we reported at the start of the month, Donald Trump threatened to invade Nigeria “guns-a-blazin’,” because of the alleged mass slaughter of Christians in the country. Therefore, Bako making a TikTok post stating that anyone who benefits from the invasion of Africa should be harmed could be seen as a threat to the President, which the Secret Service has the jurisdiction to investigate, according to the official Secret Service website.
As Bako continued to explain why the Secret Service showed up to his house, he added that he also called out the US Army general, saying, “We need to find his family.”
These videos were removed from both Instagram and TikTok, which have guidelines against threats and violent speech, but that didn’t stop the agents from knocking on Bako’s apartment door and giving him a warning.
“They told me to calm down. Basically, chill. That if they have to come back again then they’re going to have to put me through the process, which I’m guessing is I’m going to get arrested or some s***.”
In the comments of the TikTok post, viewers noted that government officials must’ve felt threatened for the Secret Service to show up at his house.
“That’s crazy they feel that threaten,” wrote one user.
“Damn, bro you doing something right,” added another.
Other users added that the threat of arrest should only be more fuel for Black folks to come together and speak out about atrocities around the world.
“So when black people start talking about self-defense and revenge, that’s a problem. We need to talk about it more then,” commented another user.
“They know that the people have the power to make changes and the more we wake up the more we take back our power,” added another.
However, folks also added that users need to think about what they post online to make sure they don’t end up in any trouble.
“Be careful with what you post. They’re watching everyone,” wrote one user.
“That’s the new thing on social media platforms, be very mindful of your posts, be safe,” added another.
