Now as we previously told you, thanks to a viral video from a South African pastor who said Jesus spoke to him in a dream recently, he led many to believe the “rapture” a.k.a. the “second coming” of Jesus was happening on Sep. 23-24, 2025. For those unaware, in the Christian faith, the rapture is described as the moment when Jesus will descend from Heaven to meet His believers. They will then ascend up, leaving their physical body and earthly possessions behind to go live in eternal life with him.

After making the rounds on social media, the viral false prophecy consequently led to a myriad of people getting rid of their belongings, quitting their jobs/businesses, and eventually–cracking jokes when they realized it was yet another false alarm.

And while Shepherd was fortunately one of those people who didn’t believe the hype this time around, she recently revealed to her audience that she’d previously fallen for the false reports of the rapture years and years ago. Speaking in a new episode of her talk show on Wednesday, the former “The View” cohost explained how she once believed the rapture was coming before and it led her to making a series of financial decisions that ultimately led to her going to jail.

“They told us to get our house in order. And I said, ‘Why? I’m not going to need a house where I am going. I don’t need those worldly possessions,” she explained. “I didn’t pay my bills. I didn’t pay my taxes. I did not pay my traffic tickets because why would I pay anything when the world’s about to end? My registration had been expired for two years. I had seriously $10,000 worth of unpaid moving violations.”

Shepherd went on to share how she didn’t even appear in court for her traffic violations, citing the fact that the world was about to end and that “Jesus don’t care about no parking tickets!” However, once she got pulled over my local police in Los Angeles, that’s when she realized that the only thing ending was her freedom temporarily. As a result, she spent eight days in jail.

“I went to jail for eight days and because I fell for the Rapture, I became a hardened criminal,” Shepherd said.

She later concluded: “” believe in the rapture. I believe it was coming. But this one, I didn’t fall for the okeydoke. Because I have been through this before.”
