While all eyes were on the stunning lights, surprise guests and amazing visuals for the last night of Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter Tour,” they may have missed a shocking moment that transpired with her father Mathew Knowles just before the lights went down.

In now-viral video footage posted to Instagram on Monday (July 28), the patriarch could be seen in attendance at the last show in Las Vegas over the weekend. While his presence there wouldn’t be out of the ordinary seeing as how he literally helped bring Beyoncé into the world, his attendance was met with a couple of apprehensive security guards. In the video, Knowles can be seen in conversation with not one but two security guards as he tried to get access to the VIP section. Though he had his entourage in tow with him, a man and a woman–the latter of whom could be seen trying to explain something to one of the guards– it still took a minute before Knowles was let in.
After checking some sort of credential and looking to apologize to Knowles, he and his team were eventually let in, but not after a delay at his own daughter’s concert. Once the footage started circulating, many were quick with real AF yet comical reactions!
“Chile they better move and let Matthew in,” wrote one user on Instagram.
“They better not play with Beyoncé’s daddy!” said another.
“All his sacrifices boy open that gate,” one other user wrote.
Added another,”If it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t have the queen!”
While that moment had plenty of people online talking, it didn’t seem to damper Knowles’ spirit at all. In fact, he later hopped on X to speak about the concert and instead chose to highlight a positive moment– specifically the long-awaited and surprise Destiny’s Child reunion– instead of his unfortunate incident.
“I could not be prouder to see Destiny’s Child reunited on stage in Las Vegas, especially as Beyoncé closes out the Cowboy Carter tour which broke records and made history throughout its run,” Knowles wrote. “I know people cheer not just for the music, but them together as women and performers reminding us what’s possible when we dream big and work hard which should be no different in our world of business.”
He concluded: “It took years for Beyoncé to get to this point but it was from strategic visibility and building brand perception among many other factors that have allowed her to be the best in the world as an entertainer. An amazing sight to witness!”
