Just days after Tyrese “threw in the tile” and officially retired from social media, the R&B crooner is facing yet another hurdle...this time of the legal variety.

The “Lately” singer has been arrested on charges of unpaid child support Monday. According to TMZ, the “Fast & Furious” star allegedly hasn’t been making his court mandated payments of $10,000 for the 5-year-old daughter Soraya whom he shares with his ex-wife Samantha Lee since he was ordered to do so back in April 2023.
Now, it appears his time of allegedly shirking that responsibility has come to an end as a Fulton County, Georgia judge held him in contempt of court and subsequently arrested him. In order to regain his freedom, the “Signs of Love Makin’” singer has to pay $73,000 to $7,500, which would go towards covering Lee’s legal fees throughout this ongoing ordeal.
While this news may come as a shock to many fans, Gibson however was seemingly prepared for something to go down today. Though he “retired” from social media last week, everyday since, he’s been going on Instagram Live for hours discussing a myriad of topics with his followers — chief among them his legal back-and-forth with Lee.
On Sunday night, he posted a carousel of photos of he and Soraya over the years with a cryptic caption:
“The love that a father can have for his children can’t quite be explained……. Whatever the outcome is today…… I am and will forever be their FATHER……..,” he wrote.
In a prior video posted to Instagram, he called his ex-wife’s moves to collect the money “goofy,” which is just par for the course given their years long-feud. He also questioned her legal team regarding they hadn’t looked into his bank statements where they could see that he had been making child support payments...just not for the amount that the judge ordered back in 2023.
This new development in the rapid and messy aftermath of their divorce also comes just days after the “1992" singer vowed to not speak publicly about Lee what they had going on currently. Clearly, that didn’t last long.
Hopefully, the threat of jail will be enough to prompt Gibson into paying so they can put this part of their relationship in the rearview mirror.
