Yes, North West is Blunt. But Give Her Some Grace.

On the latest episode of Hulu’s “The Kardashians,” North West tags along with her mother Kim Kardashian as she does a fitting for the 2023 Met Gala. In the scene, North is brutally honest and gives her notes about the look.

Her comments that set the internet ablaze, with people feeling the preteen is entitled, rude and needs to be humbled.

North’s average community is not like other children her age — she’s rubbing elbows with the richest people in our society. Sitting in on a fitting for the Met Gala is special for many, but for North, it’s just watching her mom try on clothes for yet another event.

Do the rest of us have opinions about what our mothers wear? Yes. Does she need to learn about being sensitive to people? Also yes, but that comes with learned behavior and maturity. Lest we forget, North West is only 10 years old. What child that age is consistently aware of social cues and appropriateness? Preteens are infamous for being more blunt, regardless of to whom it’s in response.

People assume that Kardashian just lets her children act up on purpose. But if you watch her parenting, you’ll see that she often immediately scolds her children when they act out of order in public. When North said in front of the Schiaparelli creative designer that the pearls on Kardashian’s dress looked like they were fake and from the Dollar Store, her mother didn’t stay quiet. She even tried to teach North a lesson about being careful with her delivery: “There’s a way to be honest and not hurt people’s feelings, so I want you to learn that…there’s a way to say, ‘You know, I might not love that.’”

Unconscious racial bias could be another reason folks also give a side-eye to North’s personality. Kourtney Kardashian’s kids (who are white) have been proven to cause trouble every once in a while: one of them has allegedly started fights in school while the others were misbehaving to the point that nannies couldn’t handle them.

Kourtney even admitted this season on The Kardashians that she feeds her feelings about people to her daughter, Penelope, and gives her a voice to criticize people. But Kourtney’s children, despite wreaking havoc at times, are given the space to be kids and catch a break. Unlike North, her aunt is blamed for her children’s behavior as opposed to her children.

What else could we expect from North? Her parents are two celebrities who are known to be vocal about what they like and don’t like. Give the kid some grace. At least we all know she’s not a liar.
