When President Donald Trump announced a federal takeover of the nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., no one could have imagined just how violent things would become. The administration has assumed control over the predominantly Black city’s police force in addition to sending the National Guard to address false claims of “high crime.”

Many videos of these arrests and other horrifying interactions between Black people– especially Black men– and federal agents continue to circulate the internet. But if you haven’t been paying attention, here’s some of the many physical interactions that will convince you to keep your eyes on D.C.
Black Men Harassed Over a Cigarette
On the very first day of the D.C. takeover, a group of federal agents approached a group of Black men sitting outside their home. “Y’all staying out of trouble,” the lead officer asks the group before pointing to one man and asking him “You got your ID on you?” The officers went on the ask the men several questions and tell them smoking marijuana in public is illegal. The lead cop had reportedly mistaken the Black man’s cigarette for a joint, which prompted the interaction. “We’re doing checks, keeping everybody safe down here,” he said.
White Man Throws Sandwich at Cops
Video of a white man throwing a sandwich at an officer has been circulating the internet. But now, we have more details concerning the Aug. 10 incident. The man, who was identified as Sean Charles Dunn, approached a group of officers, allegedly calling them “fascists.” Then, he reportedly told them, “Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city!” The video clip captures Dunn then throwing his sandwich and running. He was eventually caught…
Man Arrested, Fired After Assault

Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed on X that Dunn was charged with felony assault and fired from his job. Surprisingly, Dunn worked at the Department of Justice as an international affairs specialist in the Criminal Division of the Office of International Affairs, according to CNN. “If you touch any law enforcement officer, we will come after you,” Bondi said. “This is an example of the Deep State we have been up against for seven months as we work to refocus DOJ. You will NOT work in this administration while disrespecting our government and law enforcement.”
Protesters During Traffic Stop
During an apparent traffic stop, D.C. residents took to the streets to show a united front against Trump’s military deployment. “Get off our streets!” The group can be heard chanting at the cops.
Southeast Neighborhood Antagonized
Southeast D.C. has the highest population of Black residents in the District, according to census reports. But during the first days of the Trump takeover, officers flooded multiple neighborhoods, “searching for crime.” In this case, at least nine agents are confronted by a group of Black men all recording their interaction. One unidentified man can be seen running off, prompting multiple officers to chase him.
‘Manufacture Chaos’
Also in the video, another Black man is spotted in handcuffs as a cop whispers something in his ear. It remains unclear why the man was detained or if he remains in custody. One of the officers even pulled out what appears to be a weapon as he continued approaching a residential building. @obiwanKEN_ on X accused the officers of “manufactur[ing] chaos.”
Homeless Man Detained and Bagged
Many online are debating if officers took things too far after video went viral of a disabled homeless man in D.C. in handcuffs. The man also had a plastic bag over his head. Some X users speculated the bag was placed over the man’s head as a “spit bag,” stopping him from spitting on arresting officers. This has not been confirmed by officials.
Black Man Arrested
A Black man was arrested by police in front of a group of other Black people. Police have not confirmed what the unidentified man has been charged with, but in the video, the man can be heard telling the arresting officer “You gon’ do me like that? You’re a Black man.”

Black Woman Stopped by 8 Agents
In this short clip, a witness captured eight officers approaching a woman in the driver’s seat of her car in what looks like a simple traffic stop. One TikTok user, @FaitheyzNaiileyz, said “I thought this was about the homeless and criminals. Last i checked they don’t drive home from work all together.”
Black Man vs. Black Officer
An interaction between one officer and a Black community leader escalated after the officer accused the man of being aggressive. “So you think you can threaten a police officer,” the cop asked the man, who insisted he was not doing so. The police officer went on to say he came to this exact scene the day before to tell the man and his companions to not “block” pedestrians from passing on the sidewalk. “I’ma come out here everyday,” the cop then told the group.
