When it comes to AI, generating depictions of Black women seems to be the primary tactic for some creators to make sure their posts go viral. Another trend on TikTok has started with Black women— once again— at the center, and it is making folks scratch their heads in confusion.

As we previously told you, at the end of October a trend of AI-generated Black women yelling at state employees for not being able to use their SNAP benefits took over TikTok. Now, videos on the social media app that tricked users into thinking they were harmless fun have turned out to be just another creepy trend.
In the short AI-generated clips, Black women hold a camera up, focus on a white man in the background and saying, “Me and my husband.” The point of the videos is to make it seem like Black women are pranking random white men that they find cute and calling them their husbands, even though they don’t know each other.
The AI-generated white men always look the same with a bushy beard, blond hair, and a confused look on their faces in the clips, but are more than happy to join in on the joke as they compliment how pretty the AI-generated Black women look. The video has fooled some users who believe the trend is just cute and innocent.
“Sooo the key (to finding a husband) is being a beautiful Black woman? Got it,” commented one user.
“I feel like maybe I should do this,” added another.
But other viewers are concerned with the realistic-looking AI avatars and think it points to a scary future of fake videos tricking people.
“In about 10 years, I may get scammed,” user @catchsomeraes admitted.
“Al [sic] is starting to scare me. These are people’s faces being manipulated like this,” wrote another. “Also, some of these looked too real.”
“It’s all the same angles, too. It’s so creepy how real it looks. I almost believed the first one,” added another.
AI-generated videos are only getting more advanced, and users online are starting to find it harder to tell what’s real and what’s fake, creating an internet that has folks skeptical of what to believe.
However, there are ways to stay vigilant of what is most likely real and most likely fake, which we’ve previously reported. But one of the easiest telltale signs is to double-check the profile and see if you can find any duplicates of the same video with different avatars to make sure you’re not getting fooled by the creepy AI-generated characters.
