Why Taylor Swift’s New Album Has Travis Kelce’s Ex Kayla Nicole ‘Terrified’

Kayla Nicole shares that she is scared of hate comments just a day after Taylor Swift releases new album.

It was just last month that Black folks came to Kayla Nicole’s defense for sharing a cryptic post after Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement. Now, fans may be preparing to rally behind her again after the sports journalist shared that she is terrified of critical comments, just a day after Taylor Swift threw shade at her in her song “Opalite.” Here’s the tea.

On Friday (Oct. 3), Taylor Swift released her twelfth studio album, “The Life Of A Showgirl.” While the album is partially about her experiences in the music industry, it also focuses heavily on the love story between her and her fiancé, Travis Kelce.

However, before Kelce was Taylor’s fiancé, he was in a five-year, on-and-off relationship with sports journalist Kayla Nicole from 2017 to 2022. And it is this relationship that Taylor disses in the sixth track of her album, “Opalite,” a romantic song dedicated to Kelce. In the song, Swift sings:

“You couldn’t understand it/ Why you felt alone/ You were in it for real/ She was just on her phone/ And you were just a pose.”

Even though the lyrics do not mention Nicole directly, Taylor Swift fans, or Swifties, immediately speculated that the lyrics were a diss towards Nicole. Especially after a since-deleted video of Travis Kelce telling Nicole to get off her phone during an argument resurfaced on X, according to Page Six.

While some fans of Kayla Nicole took the lyrics as an opportunity to hype Nicole up by posting: “Taylor Swift clearly taking a whack at Kaylya Nicole on her album?!?! Oh, Kayla, you’ll always be famous!!!” Nicole might not be as enthusiastic.

Just one day after Swift dropped her album, a new episode of Nicole’s podcast, “The Pre-Game With Kayla Nicole,” also dropped, during which the sports journalist opened up with sports commentator Joy Taylor and admitted that she is terrified of comments on her page.

“I’m terrified of my DMs. I don’t want to be triggered. I don’t want to care. I don’t want to look.” But after having her perspective shifted by her podcast guest, Nicole also added, “If you’re gonna talk s*** and run your mouth, please do it so I can pay a bill around here.”

On the day of the album release, Nicole also posted an Instagram story that seemingly clapped back at Swift’s diss towards her by posting a clip from “America’s Next Top Model” in which contestant Eva Marcille says, “I don’t compare myself to other girls… I’m no comparison to anyone else,” according to PEOPLE.

The stars have not mentioned each other directly, but the beef between their fandoms is clear. And if Nicole is terrified of the comments she might get from the Swifties, then her fans on X already have her back with posts stating that the Taylor Swift fans are only making Nicole more famous.
