For a little background, the sports pundit and the former First Lady became the topic of social media timelines over the weekend thanks to a new interview the latter did recently. Speaking in the latest episode of her “IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson” podcast, the “Becoming” author mentioned Smith saying that he’s just like every other talk show host out there and compared his antics to that of reality stars on Bravo’s popular “Real Housewives” franchise.

“If I listen to ESPN for an hour, it’s like watching ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta.’ It’s the same drama and they’re yelling at each other and they don’t get along. You know, Stephen A. Smith he’s just like every other talk show host,” she said.

She later sarcastically agreed with her guest who said that he’d be a great Real Housewife and doubled down by questioning the difference between the energy of the women on the reality show and Smith on “First Take.”

It should be noted here that this part of conversation took place in a broader discussion about people being shocked someone like Obama would watch shows like “Housewives.” In response, the former First Lady used Smith and his show as an example of shows with the similar amount of drama that other people enjoy and tried to make point that it’s all alluring and compelling to watch for the same reasons.

Naturally, the footage circulated heavily on social media with a large part of folks actually agreeing with Obama and understanding where she was coming from. However, for Smith, he wasn’t really feeling her point of view and wasted no time expressing just that.

“Michelle Obama, I wanna take this opportunity to remind you that while you are revered by me personally, and I truly, truly mean that with the greatest sincerity, I’m still a bit salty at you,” he said in the newest episode of his “The Stephen A Smith Show” podcast released over the weekend.

Smith went on to say that he “took major offense” to a statement the former First Lady made in 2024 when she said that a vote for Trump in the forthcoming presidential election would be a vote against women.

“Black men don’t just love our Black women, we revere y’all. It’s who we are. And to say what you said back then, I think to this day, is the only thing that I didn’t like that you said, I didn’t appreciate it,” Smith said. “You will never hear me utter a negative word about you, but I respectfully disagreed and still remain pretty salty about what you said about us.”

He then directed his ire towards Obama’s husband and cited that as further proof as to why he has an issue with her.

“I feel even more adamant about what your husband Barack Obama said when he talked to those men in Pittsburg and implied that to not vote for Kamala [Harris, the former Vice President of the United States] is because we’re engaging in some sort of misogyny,” Smith explained.

He continued in part: “There are issues that matter to every American citizen. And the sort of blackmail us emotionally into trying to compel us to vote one way or another is part of what won Trump the election. Because that side of the aisle was able to look at the left and say ‘look at what they’ll do to win. And y’all talk about him like he’s worse.’ And in a lot of y’all eyes, he is worse.”
