It has been two years since singer Jason Derulo found himself in the legal hot seat, fighting a sexual harassment case against him. Now, the “Watcha Say” artist is speaking up about what he has learned from his experience dealing with the lawsuit, and he is even going as far as to say that he will never be alone in a room with a woman again.

As we previously reported, in 2023, up-and-coming R&B singer Emaza Dilan, whose birth name is Emaza Gibson, filed a sexual harassment claim against Jason Derulo. The suit alleged that after Dilan joined Derulo’s record label in 2021, her relationship with the “Ridin’ Solo” artist turned sour when he allegedly began making unwanted sexual advances and violent threats toward her. Derulo replied to the claims in an X post, calling them false and hurtful.
Now, in a recent episode of “In Depth With Graham Bensinger,” the podcast series hosted by Emmy Award-winning journalist Graham Bensinger, Derulo continues to deny the claims. After being asked by Bensinger what he learned from the lawsuit, he responded that he will never work with women again.
“Never work with women,” Derulo said with a chuckle. “There’s truth in every joke, but it’s a sad truth. I will never be alone in a room with a woman that I work with, like ever, ever again.”
The “Talk Dirty” artist noted that the lawsuit was dismissed twice and that the dismissal did not generate as much buzz online as the original lawsuit did.
“That case was dismissed twice in two different states, and there’s hardly no mention of it online. When that case was brought up, it was on every single blog, every single front page, and I lost so many brand deals, relationships over a story that was not even slightly believable.”
Dilan’s lawsuit was dismissed in both Nevada and California, according to Complex. However, the California case was dropped due to a clause in Dilan’s contracts with Derulo’s label that stated all legal disputes were to be heard in New York, according to the legal news publication Law Commentary.
The case was refiled this September in New York and is currently ongoing, Law Commentary reports.
Derulo concluded by adding that he isn’t comfortable being alone with the women he works with anymore. “How can I be comfortable in a room with a woman that I work with, and not feel like she can just say whatever she wants?” he said. “It’s not worth it to me.”
In the comments of the short interview clip on TikTok, folks wrote messages of support for Derulo.
“False accusers need to do serious time,” added one user.
“SMART GUY!! I refuse to be alone with a female co-worker. Even on the elevator,” commented another.
“Yep!! Not mad at him or disagree. That industry is toxic,” posted another.
However, not all users rushed to his defense. Other commenters questioned why Derulo would be uncomfortable working alone with women if he didn’t do anything wrong.
“First time I’m hearing about this, and the immediate response he had about working with women says all I need to know,” wrote one user.
“He didn’t say it wasn’t true; he said it was arbitrary. Interesting,” added another.
“Blaming a whole gender is extreme, sounds suspicious,” commented another.
