If you enjoyed comedian Katt Williams‘ viral interview on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast or the myriad of interviews that came after that, then you better savor them. Because based off a new revelation that Williams’ has just given–it seems like he won’t be returning to podcasts any time soon.

Or at least, that was the message he alluded to when he stopped by the “Sherri” show on Thursday. During their conversation, host Sherri Shepherd brought up his “Club Shay Shay” appearance and applauded him for bringing in millions and millions of views. That viral moment also won him a few awards and became a pop culture sensation. But according to Williams, speaking on podcasts isn’t really something that’s super important to him or something that he was necessarily looking forward to doing.
“I’m not a fan of my voice. Like, I don’t like to hear myself talk but because of the Shannon Sharpe thing, I decided that I was only gonna speak maybe six more times and let that speak for me for the duration,” Williams said explained. “And so I was able to pick wonderful people to go and talk to–and their fan bases are our fan base, and it’s just such a great time to be an American and to enjoy freedom of speech and to be able to have that as your livelihood.”
Since the interview with Sharpe, Williams has gone on to speak on podcasts with Theo Von, Joe Rogan, Carmelo Anthony and more–though those didn’t do as many numbers as “Club Shay Shay.” Yet and still wherever he landed, many began viewing Williams and his wise words as a sort of beacon of truth. And let Williams tell it, that descriptor merely comes with the territory of being a believer in Jesus.
“I’m a follower of Jesus Christ, so I want everything that comes along with that even if it’s not good,” he later told Shepherd. “Like, this is kind of what I signed up for. That particular interview was certainly a blessing that I was even able to be involved.”
While the “First Sunday” star might not be grabbing a podcast mic, you can still catch him behind the mic doing standup soon as a part of his upcoming “Heaven on Earth” tour.
