Darius McCrary is being held without bail in San Diego on an out-of-state felony warrant.

For nine years, Darius McCrary played Eddie Winslow, the son of a police officer who’d get into light teen trouble on the hit show “Family Matters.” But recently, McCrary found himself on the wrong side of the law in real life.

According to PEOPLE,  McCrary was arrested near the US-Mexico border and booked on Sunday (Oct. 5) by the United States Border Patrol for an out-of-state felony warrant. McCrary was detained as a “fugitive arrest” and a defendant in an open criminal case. He’s being held without bail and is due in court on Wednesday (Oct. 15).

Ann Barlow, McCrary’s rep, told Entertainment Weekly  that “the warrant was out of Michigan due to a missed court appearance regarding his failure to pay child support.”

“The missed court appearance that the warrant was stemming from was only because Oakland County sent the notice to appear in court to his P.O. Box, giving him only three days to appear in court,” Barlow said.

“He did not know at the time that he had a warrant, or he would have taken care of it,” she continued. “He was going to Tijuana, partnering with a real estate developer that was building homes for the homeless in Tijuana.”

“Mr. McCrary was there to speak encouragement and light to the homeless,” Barlow added.

Additionally, Barlow said that McCrary had contracted COVID-19 and wasn’t checking his P.O. Box often. When McCrary finally opened the notice, Barlow claimed he had already missed the date, and “the judge was immediately notified with a doctor’s note that he had COVID.”

Over the past few years, McCrary has had his fair share of legal troubles connected to child support obligations. In 2015, he was arrested and released after paying a fine of $5,500 in back support owed. He faced felony charges for failure to pay child support and a second arrest in November 2023, where he allegedly owed over $52,000 in back payments dating back to March 2019.

After pleading not guilty to all the charges, McCrary was released on a bond of $13,197.01 with GPS monitoring.
