Newton recently sat down with Bishop T.D. Jakes as the latest guest on his “NXT Chapter” podcast where they discussed among many things, Newton’s love life and his apparent aversion to marriage. During their chat, the Carolina Panthers’ star let on that there are certain expectations and ways of going about weddings and marriages nowadays that have nothing to do with the Bible.
For context, in 2024, Newton went viral for explaining that he wanted to have more kids — even though at the time he had eight children by three different women — but didn’t confidently see marriage in his future going forward.
“Everybody in love, everybody wanna walk down [the aisle], everybody wanna –everybody wanna do all the festive marital stuff that the Bible don’t even say. And when I call it out, I’m like ‘yo, the Bible never mentioned no honeymoon. The Bible never mentioned a ring, the Bible ain’t never mentioned spending millions and thousands of dollars on a marriage celebration,’” Newton explained.
He continued: “The Bible didn’t say a lot of these things but if we going off of the Bible’s accord, there’s a lot of worldly things that have crept into it. So now, for me, above all going back to the most impactful vow. For me, I want to know without a shadow of a doubt: for better or for worse?”
Given his history of creating “broken homes” (as labeled by Dr. Cheyenne Bryant), his alleged history of cheating and more–once folks online got wind of his comments–they were quick to call Newton out on his hypocrisy.
“Cam sits up in that house with a woman who will do anything and put up with anything just to have him and he still online crying in front of a camera every week,” wrote one user X/Twitter.
“Serial baby daddies are a public health issue. You don’t believe in marriage but you believe in leaving your seed everywhere and playing house,” said another.
One user flipped Newton’s words back on him, saying: “‘So many worldly things have crept in to marraige'[sic] after creating 9 kids and not marrying the 1 woman in your house is interesting.”
Added another, “Somebody needs to knock that goofy ass hat off his head. He wasn’t worried about what the Bible said when he got that woman, that he’s not married to, pregnant multiple times. You can’t pick and choose when you want to be a literalist.”
