Why Black Fla. Pastor’s Plate Overflows After Backing Trump

Pastor Kelvin Cobaris has been a long-time supporter of President Trump and the MAGA agenda.

A vast majority of Black Americans (including nearly 90 percent of Black women) voted in the 2024 election to keep President Donald Trump out of the White House for a second term. But one Black pastor in Florida is bragging about how his support for President Trump and his MAGA agenda has helped him fill his collection plates. Video was released of one of Orlando Pastor Kelvin Cobaris's sermons in which he brags about how spending time with the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue has been profitable for his church.

"When I go to the White House, they're not mad. In fact, my church increases when I go," he said. "They want to bless me just for standing for the truth."

The pastor went on to tell a story of a man he met in the White House Rose Garden who asked for his money wiring information after hearing his story. The pastor said days after meeting the man, he received a $10,000 donation in his personal account, something he believes is confirmation that supporting President Trump is the right thing to do.

"I said, Halleluiah, I should have went this way a long time ago," he told his audience.

According to the website for his New Life International Church, Pastor Cobaris has "consulted with U.S. Presidents and influential leaders of the world" but "still manages to remain connected and relevant in his community." But based on the reaction his words have received online, it seems that most Black folks believe Cobaris is completely out of touch.

"Truth is that he sold his soul for money," wrote someone on Instagram.

Despite growing up in a family of Democrats, Pastor Cobaris has been a long-time supporter of President Trump. In a 2020 interview, he told Dayton News 247 Now that after growing up as a lifelong Democrat, he was attracted to Trump's conservative agenda and likes that he gives faith leaders the opportunity to help him shape policy.

"I'm blessed to have access to the most powerful man of the United States and I don't take that lightly as just an opportunity to be around President Trump," he said. "But I understand my role as a prophet, as a man of God to speak truth to power."

Among other MAGA agenda items, Pastor Cobaris has touted President Trump's anti-LGBTQ initiatives, including removing flags from public spaces.

"God used Donald Trump to declare morality," he said.
