We can’t deny the influence that President Donald Trump has had on Christians, particularly White Christians, during his political career. One of the things that the President pledged was to “bring back Christianity,” according to The Guardian. In fact, research by the Pew Research Center, a nonpartisan research center providing demographic trends in the United States and abroad, shows that 67% of White Evangelical Christians have a favorable view of Trump. But why is it that White Christians like Trump so much and Black Christians don’t?

Well, one White Christian influencer on Instagram, @matthew__pridgen, has been wondering the same thing, and even states that he has had the best conversations about Trump when has spoken with Black folks.
“I’ve been visiting Black churches lately, I have yet to find a single Black person who is even remotely sort of attracted to Trump… I’ve had the best conversations with my Black Christian friends and Black Christians in the churches I’ve visited about Trump and they are eyes wide open. What is it? that allows them to see that is preventing so much of the white community from seeing Trump for who he is?”
It’s an interesting question, and Black folks in the Instagram comments have been providing the answers for him, and a lot of it boils down to racism.
“Because so many ‘White Evangelical Christians’ aren’t really Christians, they’re hiding behind the Bible and the cross in order to push their agenda of white supremacy. Black Americans have been on the end of that racism for centuries now, that’s why we see right through it,” wrote one user.
“We can see racism and can feel hate, and saying Jesus won’t cover it up. YOU SHALL KNOW THEM BY THEIR FRUITS,” wrote another.
Others users claimed that White Evangelicals might not actually read their Bibles and so have no spiritual discernment.
“Because we actually read our Bibles,” added one user.
“Discernment,” wrote another.
Very few users pointed at Black Christians who follow Trump’s doctrine:
“Actually, there are some Black churches under the spell,” wrote one user in the comments.
“Let’s not forget the lost Blacks called Black MAGA. They believe everything their leader says,” added another.
While some explanations exist for the divide between Black and White Christians, the reality is that President Donald Trump’s presence creates a stark division in every community, regardless of race, ethnicity, or religion, between his supporters and detractors.
