Tyrese Gibson is back in the news again…and honestly, we’re all just really confused as to why that seems to be a regular occurrence. In fact, it’s so regular that we’ve stopped being surprised about it and have now taken the stance of general confusion.

The “Fast & Furious” star is making headlines this time around because the legal team of his ex-wife Samantha Gibson is seeking to throw him behind bard temporarily over unpaid fees. Specifically, and as noted by TMZ on Wednesday, Samantha and her lawyers have filed their fourth motion in an attempt to get Tyrese to pay up on the attorney’s fees he’s legally obligated to pay.
According to his ex-wife, he allegedly hasn’t dished out any money, which is appalling considering he’s supposed to be paying $492,651.99 plus interest. As a result, Samantha’s legal team want him to be held in criminal contempt with a max of 20 days in jail as punishment for his non-payment.
The Post-Divorce Drama Continues
As you well know by now, this isn’t the first time things between Tyrese and Samantha have played out negatively. Actually, this isn’t the first time things between the “How You Gonna Act Like That?” and his ex-wives in general have made it into the news. Like we previously told you, in November 2024, the actor had harsh words for Samantha and his previous ex-wife before her Norma Mitchell.
“If you ain’t learned already, I ain’t giving you shit. Like I fought to earn this life— I’m gonna fight to keep it. I’m not giving it away to nobody, ain’t nobody gon take this. I will shoot, stab and kill over mine. I’m gon protect this bottom line at all costs,” Gibson said in part in the lengthy post at the time.
Those words came just after he announced that he’d be retiring from social media, a decision that came after a lengthy interview on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast and the aforementioned (and meme-worthy) sit down with “The Breakfast Club.”
Though it’s clear he didn’t hop offline, it’s also clear that he probably should have and may still benefit from doing so now. As we’ve seen time and time again, the “Stay” singer is prone to publicizing some very emotional outbursts on the internet that come as a result of whatever issues he’s dealing with in his personal life. Who can forget the “What More Do You Want From Me?/”My Shayla” moment, his debunking of Illuminati affiliations and those weepy interviews?
But Is Tyrese OK, For Real?
Given his mired history with his ex-wives and overall puzzling appearances on social media over the years, it begs the question of whether or not the “Lately” singer is really doing OK. One answer could be found in his August 2024 interview on “The Breakfast Club.” While there to promote his lates project, Tyrese broke down at one point, prompting concern from the hosts and fans online.
For context, Gibson’s sister Selendra passed away in 2021; his mother Priscilla Murray passed in 2022, and his other sister Shonta passed in 2023. Added to that are the deaths of other close friends and colleagues such as his “Fast and Furious” costar Paul Walker (2013), “Baby Boy” director John Singleton (2019) and recent collaborator Ray Liotta (2022), with whom he filmed his forthcoming film, “1992.”
All of that seemed to take a toll on him and he let it out in so many words on the show.
Close deaths coupled with the messy divorce and custody battle with Samantha and Norma, and the tense on-again, off-again relationship with his current girlfriend Zelie Timothy all while trying to still put out music and other creative endeavors seemed to be taking a toll on the “Sweet Lady” singer.
Regardless of whether or not you think his antics are just that or indicative of an even bigger issue, how he moves through life and through his career has us curious to know whether or not he’s really holding it together in the right way.
If he isn’t, here’s hoping he gets the help he needs in order to do so. If he is and his odd videos and what not aren’t a lowkey cry for help, then I guess we have no choice but to wait until the next time his name pops up on our timelines–because we know it’s coming.
