The nearly hour-long episode dives into a variety of topics from making music with her younger sister Halle, to talking about zodiac signs and exercising, but towards the end of the episode, the βHave Mercyβ singer was asked about how her song βCheatbackβ featuring Future came to be.
The 2023 song is on Baileyβs album In Pieces and follows a girl who wants her man to feel the same way she did when she found out he cheated on her: βIβm not gonna cry anymore/ Iβm not gonna wait up at night/ Iβm not gonna answer your calls/ Whenever youβre down/ Iβm not gonna bleach your clothes/ Iβm not gonna do you like that/ What I really, really want/ Is to cheat back (Cheat back)β
When asked about the songβs back story, she said she was battling with COVID and getting over a relationship with an unfaithful partner. βI just got cheated on and I was all in my head and my feelings so I was like. βI was never good enough for you, you said you didnβt believe in monogamy, Iβm bored in my place Iβm gonna cut this!ββ
When the host gave his apologies for having to experience cheating Bailey reacted very matter-of-factly simply saying, βThatβs alright. Itβs been a couple of times. You know, I feel like no matter how bad of a bitch you are sometimes n*ggas will cheatβ¦Itβs not a you thing, itβs a them thing. She continued to explain that she always warns her partners about cheating on her, βAnd anytime I find out somebody cheats I move on and they donβt believe me. Iβll tell them in the beginning like βWeβre imperfect humans but if you cheat on me Iβm out,β and they donβt believe me until their number is blocked.β
She also said that when she was younger she would pray to God to find her person in life but if she had to experience heartbreak to do it then that would be fine. She was inspired by the emotional and relatable songs that Adele would release and wanted to make music that imitated life the same way. Now, sheβs starting to regret asking for that kind of pain for art, βAlright, enough heartache.β
