Between health scares, her estranged husband, relapses, and rumors about her daytime talk show, Wendy has been through the wringer this year.
Unfortunately, those woes may have put the kibosh on her comedy show at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center Prudential Hall in Newark, N.J., tonight. It’s been canceled.
The Daily News reports that her “For The Record … Umm Hmm!” comedy tour show featuring comedians Carmen Barton, Kristen Sivills, Mark Viera and Royale Watkins, which kicked off in Oakland, Calif., on July 28, will not go forward as planned.
“Unfortunately, the goal and purpose of the tour has been sidelined by the headlines,” Oakland-based tour promoter Bay Area Productions said in a statement to the Daily News. It reports:
In an interview with The Daily News last week, The Asbury Park native described the tour as a “circus on the move” and a place for her to address her own hot topics and tell her own story, her way.
“There’s no place like home, you know,” she said in preparation of the Newark date.

“The first night was a smash,” she told The News. “Over 2,000 people and standing ovations. People were laughing and falling down at the same time from laughter. They were weak. And I couldn’t be more happy with the friends that were along with me.”
“The show may be canceled, but Wendy’s commitment and love for all of the fans that support her and continue to support her never will,” her promoters’ statement said, according to the News. “It is our utmost goal to return to the marketplace in the future. Ticket holders can receive refunds at the point of purchase.”
So we don’t know if that means that the headlines affected ticket sales or something else —perhaps the fact that the gossip queen said she wouldn’t be talking about her ex-husband—but whatever it is, the show in Newark will NOT go on.
