Maybe doing it dripping in traditional African beads and jewelry?

Or perhaps singing the n-word backstage beforehand?

Yes, I would agree—the third choice is the most offensive. But you got all three at the most recent Victoria’s Secret fashion show filmed earlier this month in Shanghai and which aired Tuesday.

The n-word piece came out when a video emerged on social media showing a gaggle of Vicky’s Secret models singing Cardi B’s Grammy-nominated smash, “Bodak Yellow,” and including the line “Cut a nigga off, so don’t get comfortable.”

The backlash was immediate, and the vitriol toward the models was swift and harsh.

There were clearly some folks of color in the room, but one model—who has been identified as Devon Winter—chose not to say the line, and got a kudos or two for it.

I think we all agree that nonblack people shouldn’t use the n-word in conversation, but what about when singing a black person’s song along with them? Not in mixed company? Not on video? What say you, my Kinjas? (No?)
