All Black people don’t look alike, right?? Well, after a group of photographers mistook tennis royalty for a fellow Black celeb at the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards, the internet has some thoughts on how the awkward mistake could happen.

It all went down on Monday (Nov. 3) at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards in New York City. Black Hollywood showed up and out with their bold fashions and rapper A$AP Rocky went viral for his heartfelt comments to Rihanna during his Fashion Icon Award acceptance speech.
But before that, attendee Venus Williams, who has dominated the sport of tennis with 22 doubles titles, including 14 majors and three Olympic gold medals, was mistaken for supermodel Naomi Campbell.
Both Williams, who wore a black polka-dotted dress, and Campbell, who wore the exact opposite in all-white, attended the awards at the American Museum of Natural History, but Williams arrived first.
In a now-viral video from the event, several photographers called the seven-time Grand Slam winner, “Naomi!” as she walked up the steps. Campbell showed up 90 minutes later.
Folks took to X to share their two cents.
“I can see the similarities,” one person wrote.
Another wrote: “And who made the mistake Stevie Wonder.”
A third X user said the mistake could only be made “if you’re blind!!”

Nevertheless, Williams attended the event with her new husband Andrew Preti. She confirmed her engagement to Preti, a model and actor per his IMDb bio, in July, according to PEOPLE.
The newlyweds were first spotted in July 2024 boating together in Nerano, Italy. Ever since then, they’ve been pretty private about their love, but Williams, 45, posted a selfie of her and Preti while on a vacation in the Bahamas that same month. She called Preti “the best company” on her Instagram Stories.

In September, Woman’s Day magazine reported the pair had jumped the broom in Italy. In the days leading up to their wedding in late-September, Williams was reportedly spotted wearing a large white sunhat that read “SIG.RA PRETI,” which translates to “Mrs. Preti” in English.
