We previously told you Weaver was approached in public by an unnamed man, who claimed to be her former schoolmate. “Do you remember me?” the man asked Weaver, who clearly had no idea who he was. But instead of simply admitting to that, she responded loudly saying, “So I’m supposed to remember you because…” before announcing to the public that she doesn’t know him.

Black folks online called her rude for allegedly trying to embarrass the man. Weaver, however, responded to the backlash on Instagram with a lengthy breakdown of the 40-second clip.

“Earlier this week, I broke the all-time record for the largest bottle signing in Georgia history,” she began on Instagram. “The bottle was by far our highest price point ever in a year when the spirits market is trading down. Every location we release at, including DC and Maryland, sold out within an hour.
That should have been the story. Instead, the headline became 60 Seconds at the start of the night,” she continued.

The whiskey owner went on to give a direct apology. “That moment is mine. I own it. I apologized immediately, and there are parts of it that I would handle differently today,” she said. The CEO went on to explain that in that moment she was trying to hurry to her next location, but many people– including the man– stopped her to chat or take pictures.

“I went to three different schools between the sixth and the ninth grade.” She continued explaining that there was essentially no way for her to remember the man in question. So when he approached her, Weaver said she was completely caught off guard. According to her, the best thing she could’ve done in order to exit that situation was to crack a joke… even at the potential expense of the man.

“In hindsight, I would’ve handled that moment completely differently,” she added on Instagram. “The joke wasn’t meant to embarrass them, it was meant to diffuse uncertainty.”

Although, her apology video has over 153,000 views on the app, many people continued dragging her for what they called a fake apology.

“This unapologetic so called apology ain’t getting it at all. And I promise I ain’t a bot. I’m a real human you can easily verify,” @heverettcolbert wrote. “This so called apology sounds more like a bot than anything. And I was so rooting for you … In my Tyra Banks voice.”

“She basically stated I SAID WHAT I SAID. This was a backhanded apology to the max. Why start off with how you broke the all time record for bottle signing? Why couldn’t you just say straight out, I apologize? The majority were t bots, it was us brown folks. @Realdeedawg7_ said.

“DONT NOBODY WANNA HEAR THAT BS,” @darrylpurdie responded.
