Tyrese Says R. Kelly is the ‘King of R&B’ at Chicago Concert, and Social Media Goes Off

Tyrese Gibson is making it clear who the real “king of R&B” is and his choice has got the internet hot!

Every now and then conversations, about who the real “King of R&B” is find its way to social media. But for singer and actor Tyrese Gibson, there’s only one clear answer: R. Kelly.

In fact, he recently said as much during a recent appearance in Chicago. The city is, of course, Kelly’s hometown — the same city where he was convicted on three counts of producing child pornography and three counts of enticing a minor to engage in sexual activity in September 2022. As a result, he was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison with those years running concurrently with the 30 year prison sentence he previously received from his New York conviction a year prior.

Despite his heinous crimes, it still isn’t enough to sway Gibson on his opinion. If this comes as a surprise, it really shouldn’t: This marks at least the second time that the “Fast & Furious” star has doubled down on his stance within the last year alone.

But now, it seems he’s a bit more unapologetic about it as shown in a recent viral clip.

“I know the city I’m in. I’mma say it again, feel however you wanna feel, nigga. I got no f*cks to give. The king of R&B is R. Kelly, Chi-Town baby,” he said.

Given Kelly’s history and convictions though, the thought of anyone praising him still leaves a sour taste in people’s mouths. So naturally, once Gibson’s word’s hit the social media streets, he was subsequently dragged.

“So jacked up. Giving props to felon convicted of sexual exploitation of children, transporting individuals across state lines for illegal sexual activity & producing child pornography? And acting like you’re proud to stand w/him because he had hit records? Shame on @Tyrese. WTF?” wrote one user.

“Tyrese probably hears triple entendres in r kelly’s music that the rest of us can’t tho,” wrote one user.

“This is why i don’t own a lot of male r&b records because even when talented, most of them are dumb af,” said another.

Other users pointed out the irony in Gibson’s history of crying on the internet about his struggles with trying to see his own daughter and praising a man who’s been convicted of harming other people’s daughters.

“Crying about not seeing your daughter but supporting a man that molested, beat, raped and exploited underaged girls for decades,” wrote one person.

Said another: “‘I don’t care if he exploited molested and abused little black girls and did AWFUL things to those KIDS on VIDEO he’s still the KING OF R&B’- @Tyrese My question for mister Gibson is ‘If your daughter was on one of those R Kelly pee pee tapes would you still be not giving a f*ck and calling him the King of R&B you f*cking weirdo?’
