Singer Tyrese Gibson‘s week is off to a rocky start thanks in large part to the new arrest warrant he’s facing in Atlanta. And the reason why just might surprise you.

Things all kicked off when one of Gibson’s neighbors recently called the police and alleged that “one or more” of the stars Cane Corso mastiff dogs killed their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dog. Per Fox 5 Atlanta, the neighbor was letting their dog out for a short while late at night for a few minutes before they discovered their spaniel had been attacked and subsequently killed.
The neighbor also alleged that Gibson’s four dogs had been freely roaming the neighborhood earlier that evening and causing problems. As a result, the neighbor’s dog suffered “broken ribs, puncture wounds and severe internal bleeding” before succumbing to its injuries.
Things escalated when police and animal control paid a visit to Gibson’s home days later and asked that he hand over the dogs, but the “Fast & Furious” star pushed for a few days to think before doing so. After allegedly indicating that he wouldn’t comply, FCPD obtained a search warrant for his home for later that same day — but when they showed back up to retrieve the dogs, neither they nor Gibson could be found.
On Monday (Sept. 29), Fulton County Police Animal Services Captain Nicole Dwyer announced that Gibson had a warrant out for his arrest for animal cruelty, according to WSB-TV.
“It is the negligence on his part as the homeowner and animal owner, just letting them roam free. And now they have killed an innocent animal,” Dwyer said in part.
Dwyer also detailed that there were at least five other incidents involving Gibson’s dogs in the week and a half leading up to their deadly attack and that he had been given numerous warnings about keeping his pets reigned in. Additionally, local authorities are also looking into an alleged YouTube video of Gibson showing off his Cane Corsos and joking that he wanted them to “bite the ankles off” of people who tried to come to his home.
And while Gibson had been seemingly MIA since the initial police visit to his home, on Tuesday (Sept. 30), his lawyers told TMZ that he “extends his deepest condolences to the family who lost their beloved dog” but made it clear that the incident happened while the “Sweet Lady” singer wasn’t at home to begin with.
“Upon learning of this unfortunate accident, Mr. Gibson immediately made the difficult decision to rehome his dogs to a safe and loving environment,” Gibson’s lawyer said. “Concerning the misdemeanor warrant, Mr. Gibson is cooperating fully with authorities to address and resolve this matter responsibly. Mr. Gibson asks for privacy and understanding as this matter is handled through the appropriate legal channels, and as he remains committed to the safety of his community and the well-being of all animals.”
What’s more is that it looks like the “Stay” singer is still indirectly keeping up with the headlines about him as he posted a video of his dogs playing around on Instagram on Tuesday and later hopped on Instagram Live for a quick chat with Pastor John Gray later that day.
