Tyler Perry is Like Every Other Black Daddy With This One Approach Toward His 10-Year-Old Son

The writer/director told Sherri Shepherd what his son would find under the tree this year.

Tyler Perry has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry. With popular projects like โ€œThe Six Triple Eight,โ€ โ€œDiary of a Mad Black Womanโ€ and โ€œHouse of Payneโ€ on the big and small screen, the multi-hyphenate writer/director/producer/actor has a 2024 net worth of 1.4 billion dollars, according to Forbes.

With wealth like that, youโ€™d think his only son, Aman, would be living a pretty soft life right now. But Perry says heโ€™s not trying to raise a spoiled, entitled brat. Instead, he is adamant about doing everything he can to ensure the 10-year-old stays humble.

Perry shared his approach to parenting during a recent sitdown with talk show host Sherri Shepherd on her show โ€œSherri,โ€ revealing that Amanโ€™s Christmas list was pretty simple this year.

โ€œHe gets two things. He gets books and LEGOs,โ€ Perry said.

When Shepherd and the members of her audience reacted in shock, Perry doubled down, reminding everyone that Aman isnโ€™t exactly generating any income of his own.

โ€œHe donโ€™t have a job. What else is he gonna get?โ€ he said.

If you had no idea that Tyler Perry was a dad, youโ€™re not alone. Perry does his best to keep Aman, who was born in November 2014, out of the spotlight. Although Perry and his mother โ€“ model/filmmaker/activist Gelila Bekele โ€” split in 2020, they are on the same page when it comes to coparenting, especially when it comes to letting Aman fly coach.

โ€œAbsolutely, so that he understands, I worked. He did not,โ€ Perry told Shepherd. โ€œSo when he works, he can learn that lesson. Heโ€™s not going to be one of those ridiculous spoiled rich kids. I canโ€™t stand that.โ€
