TV’s Best Binge: The Hidden Gems of Peacock

“Psych,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” “Ray” and the Olympics are among the interesting choices you’ll find on Peacock.

In the never-ending mass of streaming services, Peacock can sometimes get lost, as viewers focus on its countless sports options instead of its series and movies. However, there are quite a few fun picks from NBC and Universal Pictures’ catalogs. Sure everyone knows about “Law & Order,” “The Office” and the Bravo reality show lineup, but here are a few other hidden gems that deserve your attention.

Here’s 100 years of the Best Black Dandyism Heading Into Met Gala 2025

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

The absurd comedy following cops in Brooklyn is always a good choice when you need a laugh. Seriously, it’s straight-up nonsense that will instantly put you in a good mood.

Olympic Sports

The 2024 Paris Summer Games are from July 26 to Aug. 11. Not only will all the competitions be available on Peacock, but you can also check out the U.S Olympic Trials leading up to the Games so you know who’s representing Team USA.

Honk For Jesus, Save Your Soul

Regina Hall is spectacular in the dramedy about a disgraced pastor trying to get his congregation and stature back. Hall is a wife who wants her life back, but also doesn’t want to truly deal with the flaws that led to her downfall. She carries the movie.

Girls Trip

I can’t lie: Tiffany Haddish is A LOT. But the rest of the Flossy Posse is inspiring as they lean on each other to get through their challenges. It’s always fun to see Black women celebrated like this.

John Wick Franchise

If you need a nice easy binge on a Saturday, you can’t go wrong with “John Wick.” The first one is amazing. The sequels provide a fascinating look into this world of assassins. Fair warning: They get increasingly violent with each movie.

Straight Outta Compton

The NWA biopic offers a look at the real people behind the influential rap group. It delivers an authentic look at their rise to stardom and eventual breakup. It also launched the careers of Corey Hawkins and O’Shea Jackson Jr.

Ray

There’s always time to enjoy Jamie Foxx’s Oscar-winning performance in “Ray.” It’s such a complex, layered portrayal, you can find something new to admire during every viewing.

Soul Men

Bernie Mac and Samuel L. Jackson are hilarious as two bandmates from an old school soul group. It’s way too much fun.

Suits

A lot of new fans of recently discovered the USA Network legal drama “Suits.” Yes, it’s interesting to see Meghan Markle the actress in her pre-royal life. However, the best character on the show is Gina Torres’ Jessica Pearson and it’s not even close. As a bonus, her spinoff, “Pearson,” is also available on the streamer.

Bel Air

As one of Peacock’s most popular original series, “Bel Air” isn’t exactly hidden, but we’ll never pass up a chance to highlight how good this show is. It’s absolutely amazing how it simultaneously honors the classic sitcom while creating its own path.

Twisted Metal

If you’re into weird sci-fi combined with total nonsense comedy, then Anthony Mackie’s “Twisted Metal” might be for you. Keep in mind, it’s definitely out there, so it’s not for everyone.

The Best Man: The Final Chapters

If you’ve been following “The Best Man” characters through all their ups and downs, it’s truly fascinating to catch up with them at this point in their lives. In middle age, the struggles become a lot more serious and permanent.

Psych

If you’ve never seen James Roday Rodriguez and Dule Hill in “Psych,” you’re absolutely missing out on a charming comedy that revolves around two friends’ devotion to supporting one another and solving crazy crimes in Santa Barbara, Calif. Warning: Once you watch one episode, you’ll totally be hooked.

Scrubs

Despite its loyal fanbase, “Scrubs” sometimes gets lost in the discussion around hilarious, clever workplace comedies. It’s completely ridiculous, but also heartwarming and just fun to watch.

WWE

If you want to turn off your brain and get away from the dumpster fire of the real world, nothing is better than the fantasy of pro wrestling. Modern WWE doesn’t have as many wild characters as it used to, but there’s plenty of Black athletes like Bianca Belair, the Street Profits, New Day, Bobby Lashley and Jade Cargill, to root for.
