While the rest of us were trying to get some sleep last night, President Donald Trump was busy going on a Truth Social tirade. This time, his attacks were aimed at former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama… and as you can probably imagine, Trump’s posts were not pretty.

The president took to his favorite social platform— which he owns– beginning around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 6). As he usually does, Trump started by simply posting and reposting videos and memes sourced from MAGA accounts. But when the Republican posted one AI-generated video of the Obamas, folks were quick to call Trump out for racism.
The video portrays Obama and his wife as apes, egging on the centuries-old racist stereotype of Black people. Of course, Trump’s attacks had to coincide with the start of Black History Month, so you can bet Black folks on social media were quick to drag him.
“This isn’t a mistake or a stretch. It’s explicit racism it’s being left up, the cruelty isn’t accidental,” @obj0x0 tweeted. “The timing isn’t either. Black History Month.”
“This is why ANYBODY who supports him, is a loser and a racist. THIS is how he feels about black people,” @MasinElije said on X. “THIS is how he sees ALL of us. He is the President and comfortable posting black people as monkeys and gorillas and y’all will still say he likes black people?”
Even Trump’s close ally, S.C. Sen. Tim Scott, called out the post for exactly what it is: racism. “Praying it was fake because it’s the most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House,” The senator wrote on X. “The President should remove it.”
“This would be a nuclear-level scandal like 10 years ago. But Trump has lowered the bar so much that I don’t think this even gets a news cycle worth of coverage,” @Socdem_Michael said.
Many Black folks, while offended were unfazed by yet another example of Trump attacking a Black person. “Doesn’t mean a thing either. People have zero standards for him as a person or leader,” former NFL wide receiver Torrey Smith wrote. “It’s embarrassing and disappointing. Choosing to side with him is agreeing with him. My personal line is drawn with people and I move accordingly.”
House press secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the backlash Trump’s receiving as “fake outrage.” She continued in a statement saying, “This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from the Lion King.” She added, “Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public.”
While it’s true other politicians, like former President Joe Biden, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and N.Y. Rep Alexandria “AOC” Ocasio-Cortez also appeared in the video as jungle animals, Black folks couldn’t help but point out Trump’s racist pattern, especially when it comes to the Obama family.
Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta said, “Donald Trump is an unrepentant racist and too much time is spent pretending he’s not.”
“This is not someone who is for the people this is not a person who should be president,” another user, @Kodeinee, wrote.
“To think we have black people who openly supports this man is ridiculous,” @Swaggzeez1 said on the app referring to the recent trend of Black celebrities jumping on the Trump train. “Nicki, 50 cent and co are openly romanticise a man who’s giving go ahead to his racist supporters to call y’all Mom and dad Mo*key. Shame.”
@leebee4life said, “Trump has never really attempted to hide his racism before. But posting a clip that depicts the Obamas as apes is on level that’s insane even for him. Wow. Unf**king real.”
As of Friday (Feb. 6), Trump’s original post is still up. There’s been no word from his administration on any plans to further address the backlash or take the video down.
