Top 5 Black Disney TV Shows, Movies That Deserve Anniversary Specials

While many fans are happy about the recent ‘Hannah Montana’ anniversary special, let’s take a look at some Black Disney shows that are deserving of one, too!

As fans of “Hannah Montana” continue to feel all their early 2000s feelings again, thanks to the recently released “Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special,” it got us thinking about well-deserved Disney Shows that deserve some love, too.

While we know Miley Cyrus did her thing, the success of her show hinged largely on a handful of Black shows that came before it, like “That’s So Raven.” That’s why we wanted to take a look at a handful of Black shows that have earned an anniversary or reunion special over the years, thanks to their respective fan bases. Hopefully, by the time we get to the end of this list, somebody at Disney will start making some phone calls to get the ball rolling!

“That’s So Raven”

This one should go without saying, if we’re honest. While “The Famous Jett Jackson” was technically one of the first, Black-led shows on Disney Channel, it helped pave the way for one of the network’s most successful shows ever: “That’s So Raven.” The way kids and tweens were locked into Raven-Symoné’s shenanigans on that show should be studied. From the hilarious storylines, her stellar fashions and the cast that made the show feel fresh but grounded—it’s beyond time to get the crew all back together again and take a fun stroll down memory lane. (Let’s just make sure Orlando Brown and Raven are good first before we do, if you know—you know.)

“The Cheetah Girls”

Who knew a beloved book would make for an even better movie franchise? Clearly, the execs at Disney did, because the feature adaptation of this movie was such a hit—it gave us not one, not two, but three films. Shoutout to the power of friendship, the power of good music, the power of a good cast (looking at you, Raven, Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, Kiely Williams and Sabrina Bryan) and the power of being “cheetah-licious.” Give the people what they want, and that’s a Cheetah Girls Anniversary special!

“K.C. Undercover”

Before people fell in love with Zendaya as a fashion icon, they were first introduced to her on Disney Channel, thanks to her popular shows “Shake It Up” and “K.C. Undercover.” The latter was especially cool because not only did we get the true first glance of Zendaya doing a bit more with her acting range, but the show boasted another classic Black sitcom star as her father— Kadeem Hardison from “A Different World.” If that doesn’t make this show worth a reunion special of sorts, we don’t know what does!

“Twitches”

While “Sister, Sister” eventually aired on Disney Channel, it’s not considered an original. But what is an original, however, is “Twitches,”—the mystical, magical franchise starring Tia and Tamera Mowry-Housley. And boy, are we glad Disney said yes to this project because it had a lot of viewers in such a chokehold that it spawned a sequel, “Twitches Too.” (It lowkey should’ve led to a spinoff show too, but we digress). It’s definitely beyond time to give these famous sisters and the supporting cast a chance to come back together again. Who needed Harry Potter when you had two pretty, magical Black sisters? This was the real show!

“The Proud Family”

While we know “The Proud Family” was a cartoon, it was predominantly voiced by an all-Black cast. You know, folks like Jo Marie Payton, Tommy Davidson, Kyla Pratt and more. It would be a joyous occasion to see them all come back and relive fond memories for a show that gave Black kids some form of cartoon representation at a time when so little existed. Plus, a show that was able to pull Solange and then-group Destiny’s Child for the iconic intro song is way too cool to leave on the back burner. Give them the reunion, now!
