As you’re well aware by now, one thing “Mama Tina” never hesitates to do is dote on her grands and thats’s exactly what she did this year on her official Instagram in honor of Blue’s birthday. But prior to that, she revealed that Bey went through a rough time carrying Blue during her first trimester. She specifically referenced and posted a throwback clip of ITV’s 2011 “A Night with Beyoncé” special and shared that Bey was extremely sick during this show as she was pregnant with Blue at the time–but only Tina, her stylist and one other person knew about it.

She went on to say that in between songs, Bey would go backstage and vomit and come back out as if nothing ever happened. And all the while, her band and others in attendance were clueless. Seeing her daughter push through while carrying her inspired her to see how strong she was and determined she was to keep the show going and push through.

“This is one of the hardest shows we’ve ever done. Beyonce was about two months pregnant with Blue and as nauseated as she could be. In between songs, she would run back and throw up and come out and do the next song. This is when I knew without a doubt how strong and resilient of a performer she was.. we couldn’t tell anyone about the pregnancy,” Tina wrote in her post.

In a followup post to commemorate Blue’s birthday, Tina later explained the origin of her name, explaining that when they all found out she was growing in Bey’s belly–she was initially the size of a blueberry. Hence, the “Blue” in Blue Ivy. Tina went on to express how proud she is of her granddaughter and all that she’s already accomplished as a young teen.

“We all prayed together for you every single day till you were 12 weeks old in your moms belly! Then we prayed individually until you arrived months later. It was apparent that you were a fighter from the beginning, and you talked very early,” Tina said. “And you were always smart as a whip we played Princess and Barbie dolls All the time and your imagination was incredible. To say that I’m a proud grandmother is an understatement!”

She concluded: “Even with all of your accomplishments and success, you remain a very sweet, kind humble human being. To my manager, makeup artist , fashion adviser , my love. Happy Birthday.”
