The TikTok couple raised some eyebrows when their followers learned that LaToya’s late husband was her current husband’s best friend. But wait! Before you start making any judgements, let us explain.

As it often goes, you always find love in the most unexpected places, and one couple on TikTok has shared the unconventional journey of how their love story began. Levelle & LaToya Bell (@Living_with_bells_on) are a couple on TikTok who post videos about their life and funny relationship.
The chemistry shared between the pair (both in their fifties) is evident, but it’s a love found through grief. In a three-part series on TikTok, the couple went into depth on how their romance started, and it was anything but illicit. In the video, Levelle explains that LaToya’s late husband was his best friend for 45 years; he was practically his brother, and Levelle would never have thought to disrespect his best friend.
But after LaToya’s friend was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the men sat down together and got to talking. As part of his wishes before he passed away, the dying man expressed asked Levelle to marry LaToya, because he was the only other man he would want LaToya to be with.
This wish was a shocking confession for both Levelle and Latoya Bell, as LaToya explains:
“If you knew my late husband, you knew that he was adamant before his passing about, you know, my never being with anybody else… But I believe this [her marriage with Levelle] was God ordained because his heart began to change towards the end, and he knew that life went on, and when you love somebody, you want them to be happy… So he told me that Levelle was the only person he wanted me to be with… He actually told my son as well, that is the only man I want her to be with…”
Of course, folks in the TikTok comments got to talking, and many people found the story adorable:
“The two people he loved most, now love each other even more. How sweet,” wrote one user.
“This is such a beautiful love story. He would be happy to know you’re in good hands. Thank you for sharing,” wrote another.
“I love it!! Your story sounds like a Hallmark love story,” added another.
Other users did not find the story so heartwarming:
“Makes you wonder if you two had something going on before he died,” wrote one user.
“No way. Not knocking you. I couldn’t ever want any of my spouse’s best friends,” added another.
“What if he [LaToya’s late husband] told you he wanted you to marry his boss? So you would have married whoever he said? Lies,” added another user.
However, when it comes to “justifying” their relationship, the couple feels no need to. They explain that, yes, they have lost some friends and family over their marriage, but they sleep well knowing that they never did anything wrong. Not to mention the fact that he expressed this is the relationship he wanted for his wife.
“We never betrayed him or did anything that was inappropriate before his passing, and then after his passing, it wasn’t even immediate then. However, we were married within the next six months,” LaToya explains.
Even though they have received some negativity from ex-friends, family members, and users in their comments, many TikTok users noted how they’ve seen love stories like this before.
“It has been a wonderful two years getting to know each other,” LaToya adds. “… We have grown in love, and the bond is strong. I wouldn’t trade him for nothing.”
