All The Best Moments From This Week’s HBCU Homecoming

Florida A&M University, Southern University, Grambling University and others had an explosive week.

Football is one of America’s beloved past times, and better believe we love it even more at our Historically Black Universities and Colleges (HBCUs). As Homecoming season continues with amazing guests, lively entertainment, and of course, tons of HBCU love and pride, The Root just had to recap all football fun you may or may not have seen yet.

If you haven’t had a chance to attend an HBCU Homecoming football game, it’s not too late! Buy your tickets and make your travel plans right now. But in case you needed anymore convincing on why you should, here are some of the highlights and moments from this past week’s Homecoming football season…

Florida A&M University vs. Jackson State University

It was a southern showdown at Jackson State University. Although the Florida rattlers are the reigning SWAC champions, they struggled on the road this past week.

Final – Florida A&M University vs. Jackson State University

By halftime, FAMU was up, but at the end of the game, Jackson State dragged out a win (35-21). Over 28,000 fans were in attendance.

Alcorn State University vs. Southern University

It seems the boys of Lousiana’s Southern University were all smiles after defeating Alcorn during their Homecoming. During the game, 26,685 fans reportedly tuned in, according to HBCU Sports.

North Carolina A&T University vs. Hampton University

With over 23,000 fans watching NCAT’s Homecoming game against Hampton University, you better believe those boys put on a show!

Final – North Carolina A&T University vs. Hampton University

If you can believe this, NCAT got blown out 59-17 by the Hampton Pirates. What an interesting way to cap off GHOE (Greatest Homecoming On Earth).

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff vs. Grambling State University

On Grambling’s home turf, the Tigers battled it out against the Golden Lions for a Homecoming game to remember. In the end, the Tigers beat out the Lions (31- 21.)

Miles College vs. Clark Atlanta University

The small Alabama HBCU of Miles College showed down against Clark Atalanta University this weekend.

Miles College University vs. Clark Atlanta University University

Miles walked away with a 49-28 win over the Atlanta university.

South Carolina State University vs. Fort Valley State University

South Carolina State dominated against Fort Valley State for a 30-3 end score.

Tennessee State University vs. Howard University

In a showdown obviously worth the wait, Howard University (HU) and Tennessee State University (TSU) faced off this past weekend. During the centennial anniversary of Howard’s Homecoming, TSU upstaged HU for a 27-14 win over the Bison.

Bethune-Cookman University vs. Mississippi Valley State University

This weekend was huge for Bethune-Cookman as they got their first win of the season over Mississippi Valley State (20-10).

Albany State University vs. Morehouse College

Albany State University’s Homecoming had a tragic end after a shooting took place hours after their big homecoming football win against Morehouse (52-6).

Shaw University vs. Johnson C. Smith University

Although around 5,000 people tuned in for the game, it was nothing short of entertaining!

Final – Shaw University vs. Johnson C. Smith University

In the end, Johnson C. Smith kept their perfect record by defeating Shaw (21-14).
