If you’ve been paying any attention to Sharpe news of late, the last few weeks haven’t been the best for him. As we previously told you, just before the month of July came to a close, Sharpe was fired from his position at ESPN. He was a regular fixture on the network’s popular show “First Take,” but decided to take a leave of absence from it all following the shocking, $50 million sexual assault lawsuit lobbed against in April.

Fast forward three months later, it was announced that he and his accuser, then-OnlyFans model Gabriella Zuniga had settled for an undisclosed amount.

Not too long after that, Sharpe and his “Nightcap” podcast cohost Chad Ochocinco were hit with a $20 million defamation suit after a woman in a viral Usher video alleged the hosts knowingly pushed a false narrative about her marital status when they discussed the moment on their podcast.

Given the financial blows Sharpe has been dealt, it only makes sense for him to want to try keep as much money as he can close to him at this stage in his career. That’s why, on the latest episode of his podcast, Sharpe pressed Ochocinco to pay back some money that he’s owed him for nearly a year.

Speaking on the topic of Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the contractual back-and-forth he’s embroiled in with one of his players, Sharpe jokingly compared Jones’ alleged unwillingness to pay his players what they’re owed to the outstanding funds Ochocinco has yet to pay him.

“I’ll pay you when I get ready,” Sharpe said, referring to Jones and then to Ochocinco. “Like you do me. Like you owe me [$]5,900. You basically told me, ‘I’mma pay you when I get ready.’”

When the former Cincinnati Bengals told Sharpe that he never said that verbatim, Sharpe pushed the issue.

“Your actions did. We’re coming up on a year. There’s a penalty for being late,” Sharpe noted.

That’s when the former wide receiver assured Sharpe that he’d pay him back as long as he could shirk the Jones comparisons. However, it didn’t seem like Sharpe was too willing to wait that much longer and hinted at his recent legal woes as his reasoning for getting his dollars sooner rather than later.

“See, you got it, but I need to get it,” Sharpe said. “You know, pockets light right now, Ocho. Pockets light.”
