In the greatest plot twist we have seen in Marjorie Taylor Greene-Trump saga, the Georgia Rep announced via X that she will resign from Congress on Jan. 5, 2026—nearly five years after the Jan. 6 attack—and Bingo cards are ablaze nationwide.

Not long ago, Greene was the jelly to Donald Trump’s peanut butter, but their very public political breakup—after Trump refused to endorse her Senate run and she accused him of being mad because she pushed for the Epstein files, “receipts” and all—has led to an outcome that, quite frankly, no one saw coming.
The unexpected announcement has the internet talking, with theories spreading like wildfire. Meanwhile, she gave her own reasons: Amid her popcorn-worthy digs at Trump and Republicans, who she claimed “stabbed [Trump] in the back,” Greene cited her conservative record like a resume. Then she stated her reason for resigning nearly a year before her term ends.
What MTG Said About Resigning:
In a 10-minute video, Greene, wearing a white V-neck top and a gold cross necklace, sat on a couch in front of a Christmas tree as she announced her resignation. She argued that Washington has failed ordinary people, her party has failed to protect Americans from “outrageous, overpriced and unaffordable health insurance policies,” and that Congress has left her bills, in her words, ‘collecting dust.’” She also defended her advocacy for trafficked and abused girls, insisting it shouldn’t make her a “traitor” or a target of presidential threats.
“I have too much self-respect and dignity. I love my family way too much and I do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the president we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms and in turn be expected to defend the president against impeachment after he hatefully dumped tens of millions of dollars against me and tried to destroy me.”
That’s her reasoning and she’s sticking to it, but let’s get into what Americans are thinking.
She Knows the Epstein Files Will Take Trump Down
One theory is that MTG knows that Trump will not survive the fallout of the Epstein files. TikTokker @greenemeansgo1 believes that Greene’s resignation is an act of “self-preservation.”
Some commenters reacted to the news with a similar sentiment.
One viewer wrote, “Feels like we’re missing something. Personally I think she found out more than she wanted about the Epstein situation and it either wrecked her world or she knew the DC world was about to flip on its head.”
“I believe she truly cares about the Epstein survivors… She made a lot of mistakes in the past, but this time she took one for the team! I was hoping she’d keep fighting for justice but I understand,” another wrote.
She Doesn’t Want to Make the Impeachment Vote
Creator @thepoliticalmusicteacher alleges that Greene is leaving because “she knows that there is going to be a vote to impeach and remove [Trump]” and is fearful of the backlash she and her district could face if she opposes him.
“She stayed long enough for her pension and made millions in stocks. She’s good,” one TikTokker wrote.”
Greene is Taking Her Pension and Running
Speaking of pensions, in case you missed it, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) chimed in on it, and what she said started tongues wagging.
In a TikTok shared by the Brian & Ed Krassenstein account, the creator read a message from AOC’s account that said Greene’s decision to leave Congress has nothing to do with health care concerns or “corruption schemes” and everything to do with the timing of her congressional pension, which she qualifies for just two days before her resignation date.
The comments drop all kinds of theories from political aspirations to making millions in stocks. One user questioned the issues between Greene and Trump, stating, “I think, like Elon, this fight was manufactured. I don’t buy them brawling for a second. I’ve been paying attention real hard for a decade. None of them can be trusted and they’re up to something.”
She’s Frightened by the Death Threats
A segment of TikTok is leaning into Greene’s claims of receiving death threats, sparking a mix of concern and skepticism among users. Some expressed worry for her safety, like the user @africanjoysmom, who wrote, “MAGA is a mafia and they threatened to Epstein her!” and another user who added, “They have to be threatening her. She is scared for her life.”
Others were more cynical. “She is preparing to run for something much bigger. I still don’t trust her,” @ReeLynn_415 wrote.
Greene Wants to be the Head of the ‘America First’ Movement
Creator @hearmeoutonthis2 thinks there is something bigger to Greene’s announcement. After alleging that Zohran Mamdani is Trump’s new “man crush,” the TikTokker said, “MAGA is fracturing into two groups, the other group being America First,” proposing that Greene wants to lead America First.
“Yep!! “She is playing the long game!!” another TikTokker wrote.
“MTG wants to lift up Nick Fuentes,” @Evie102 wrote, speaking on the Gen Z white nationalist, who leads the “Groyper” movement. “I will NEVER accept her,” the poster added.
She Wants to be the Next POTUS
One of the biggest theories is that she will run for president.
“You’re 100% correct,” one commenter wrote in response to hearmeoutonthis2. “MTG is gearing up to run for POTUS as the true America First Candidate. And I think DJT was just trying to get notes on how to run a successful election that doesn’t need ‘assistance’ from Melonia.”
“That’s what I think she is going to do,” another TikTokker wrote about the POTUS theory. “She wants to come across a moderate/purple even. I don’t trust her.”
Greene’s Going to be a Political Commentator
Another theory is that Greene is gearing up for a career in news. In a TikTok, creator @sarcasticsarahofficial said, “The rats always know when the ship is sinking before the passengers even do,” suggesting an announcement is coming from “a certain ‘news’ channel” that will announce Green as “their newest talking head.”
“Hmmm maybe!” one viewer wrote.
“She did say an incredible job opportunity popped up,” another commented.
A different TikTokker chimed in saying, “She also left Congress a millionaire.”
Whatever the real reason, Greene’s resignation marks yet another bizarre chapter in a saga that has redefined recent political chaos. One thing is certain: the MTG-Trump rollercoaster isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
