As we told you recently, the “Be Careful With Me” rapper was in court thanks to an incident that allegedly took place in 2018. She stood accused of assault by a female security guard, Emani Ellis. Fast forward to 2025 and the two were back in front of each faces again, only this time– to square off in a court of law.

However, unfortunately for Ellis, the pendulum of justice swung in Cardi’s direction on Tuesday, as she was later found not liable of the assault as “the jury found that the security guard did not prove the elements of assault, negligence or emotional distress,” according to NBC News.

But just because Cardi’s no longer in court doesn’t mean she didn’t leave us with a generous supply of meme-worthy moments while she was there. So if you missed the hubub as it was going on in real-time, keep reading for the hilarious and wild highlight reel!

Cardi B Throws a Marker at a Reporter

Though this didn’t necessarily happen inside the courtroom, upon leaving the courthouse on the last day of the trial, Cardi stopped momentarily to sign autographs from fans. However, the moment was short-lived when a reporter asked for her reaction to rumors that she was currently pregnant with her soon-to-be ex-husband Offset’s child–amid her alleged new relationship with NFL player Stefon Diggs.

Pissed off at the question and the suggestion, Cardi took a marker she was about to write with and threw it in the direction of the reporter and began to chastise him for having no manners and asking her something like that.

“Do you see women asking those types of questions to me? You shouldn’t be asking those questions to me. Why do you feel as a man you get to ask me those types of questions? Act like you have some manners,” she said in part.

“Which One Is Your Real Hair?”

@meghannmcuniff

Cardi B is testifying in her civil assault trial in Los Angeles today, and the bumbling plaintiff’s lawyer actually asked her about her hair and revealed he didn’t know she wears wigs. “Which one is your real hair? Or are they both real?” plaintiff’s lawyer Ron Rosen asked. “They’re wigs,” Cardi B answered. Then Rosen asked if she’s affiliated with a gang, but the judge sustained Cardi’s lawyer’s objection so she didn’t answer. Rosen’s client Emani Ellis alleges Cardi, legal name Belcaris Almanzar, assaulted her in 2018 while Ellis was working security at an OB-GYN center in Beverly Hills in 2018 and Cardi, who was pregnant, was there for an appointment. If you were looking for an early sign that this case was going to be open and shut, then look no further than one of the first few days when Ellis’ lawyer asked Cardi if the different hairstyles she was wearing were her real hair or not. (Pro tip from a non-legal pro: don’t ever ask a Black woman or any woman for that matter if her hair is her real hair.)

“I Was 130 Pounds At That Time”

While on the stand, Cardi was asked by Ellis’ lawyers how she could come to the conclusion that Ellis was “bigger” than her. We don’t know if it’s the shoulder shrug, side smirk or hair flip that made this answer better than it should’ve been but once again–Cardi turned her comedic charm on and it was HIGHLY entertaining.

“What Does ‘Security Heavy’ Mean?”

We’re going to call it now: describing someone as “security heavy” or like they could “protect a building” is going to enter prime real estate in pop culture’s lexicon and will subsequently get cancelled not too many days afterwards.

“You Want Me to Tell You the Things I Can’t Do?”

In one of the more comical moments, Ellis’ lawyer tried to get Cardi to say whether or not she was disabled at the time of the alleged incident. Cardi smartly responded that she was disabled because she was pregnant at the time and conveyed that there were plenty of things she couldn’t do because of that.

“Tell Her What You Said Right Now!”

Day 3 : Cardi B Trial: My thoughts on this clip, I feel like the prosecutor tried his best to get Cardi rowled up so he could prove that she was the aggressor. However I don’t even know why he took on this case; I’ve never heard so many objections in a courtroom. #CardiB #bardi #trial #court #celebrity #Emani #pregnant

One of the most awkward and decibel raising moments came when Ellis’ lawyer asked Cardi to repeat the words she said to his client back in 2018 to her face. When she looked confused, the judge stepped in and told the lawyer to essentially watch his tone so as to bring the temperature down in the courtroom.

“Are We Having a Verbal Altercation?”

@meghannmcuniff

Cardi B @Cardi B will return to the witness stand tomorrow after testifying for about 50 minutes in her civil assault trial in Los Angeles County Superior Court today (Tuesday, August 26, day 2). Cardi is being sued by Emani Ellis, a now-former security guard at a medical center who claims Cardi assaulted her while pregnant and there for an appointment with an OB-GYN in February 2018. Ellis claims Cardi spit on her and called her the n-word racial epithet. Ellis’ lawyer Rob Rosen is a little, uh, rough around the edges in his questioning and entire approach to the trial, and his questioning of Cardi today exemplified this. He focused so much on the process and responses to discovery and witness disclosures, and he couldn’t get through the questioning without Judge Ian Fusselman sustaining an objection from Cardi’s lawyer Peter Anderson. Fusselman sustained Anderson’s objection for relevance when Rosen asked Cardi about her ethnic background, but he then asked if she considers herself African American and she answered, “I consider myself Afro Caribbean.” “Have you ever used the N-word with Ms. Emani Ellis?” Rosen asked today. “No,” Cardi answered. In yet another slightly tense moment between Cardi and Ellis’ lawyer, he asked her to say whether or not she’d describe the conversation they were having as a “verbal altercation,” similar to the one she claimed she and Ellis had all those years ago. Cardi’s response was nothing but comedy gold and elicited laughs from the room.

“I’m Just Trying to Check My Cat”

@meghannmcuniff

Rapper Cardi B will return to the witness stand in her civil assault trial in Los Angeles on Wednesday (August 27) after testifying for about 30 minutes Tuesday afternoon. Legal name Belcaris Almanzar, Cardi is accused in a lawsuit of assaulting a security guard at the OB/GYN center where she had an appointment in 2018 when she was pregnant with her first child. Emani Ellis, who was fired over the incident, claims Cardi assaulted her after she accused Ellis of filming her, which Ellis denies doing. Ellis’ lawyer Rob Rosen questioned Cardi in direct-examination, and Cardi was animated on the stand as she testified about the incident and denied hitting Ellis or calling her the n-word like the lawsuit says. In describing the verbal altercation between her and Ellis, Cardi hilariously remarked that she was only there trying to “check her cat” before Ellis invaded her privacy and began recording her without her consent. (For those who still don’t get it, Cardi was there visiting with her OBGYN.)

“My Forehead Is Raw, Raw, Raw”

In what could be described as a full circle joke, Cardi referred back to Ellis’ lawyer’s comments near the beginning of the trial when he made mention of her ever-changing hair. Speaking to reporters outside the courthouse after winning the case, she joked that her forehead was getting “raw” from switching out so many wigs for the trial.
